2 Year old killed by Harley

A 2 year old kid was somehow pinned under a Harley here in Kansas City for a 1/2 hour or so today and died. Tragic strange event.

Child was playing on the Harley when it fell over crushing hime. Grandparents were inside asleep.

Child Killed When Motorcycle Falls On Him

KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- A 2-year-old boy was killed Thursday afternoon when a motorcycle fell on him at his grandparents' home.

The accident happened just after 4 p.m. near Ninth and Central streets.

Neighbors told KMBC's Micheal Mahoney that one of the grandfather's motorcycles fell on Jeffrey Wing Jr.

"All I heard was the ambulance coming, and then I saw his grandpa and uncle pick him up and he was lifeless. And then they went running into the back door. And then I heard the ambulance coming, and then the grandma came out and told me that the motorcycle had fallen over on him," neighbor Rebecca Ross said.

Ross said the grandmother told her the boy had been under the motorcycle possibly as long as 30 minutes before they found him.

30 minutes??? A two year old left alone for 30 effing minutes??? Just sick...and sad.

"Sure! We'll let him run around in the garage while we take a nap! We'll check on him every half hour or so..."

I am not trying to blame this on the bike, but after all the talking we have done about how good the Harley side stand is, how did the bike fall over on a two year old? He certainly couldn't have had the strength to move the bike off of the stand.

I had a little difficulty finding a better article than the one I posted, but the video that went along w/ that article indicated that the child was "in the back yard". That COULD mean that the bike was parked in the grass or on some other type of soft surface. I'm speculating here, but that would help explain how such a small child was able to get the bike to fall over.

While the grandparents must be feeling awful, they still shoulder the blame here, IMHO.

What a tragedy....incidents such as that many times split up marriages and families...

Letting a toddler run around unattended = Bad Idea

It would be interesting to know further details of the mechanics of how it happened...as Geezer said, that kid's weight shouldn't have budged that bike a bit.

Never meant to imply a "Harley" thing, it was a "stupid" thing. What the hell is going on when a two year old is left unattended for any time. Unfortunately stupidity can be very expensive.

My first guess is that the reporter saw "cruiser" and wrote "Harley". That happens all the time.

In the case that it was a real HD, then I doubt the kid made it tip over off the side stand, that's dang near impossible for a 2 yr old. I'd wager it was up on a lift or sitting in the grass (as speculated here earlier).

that is why I centerstand my bike as much as possible as it is a fear of mine that one of my girls might tip it over.

Ages 10, 6 and 4. They park their bicycles next to "It" for company.
