I have found a really good deal on a 2004 R1150R Rockster. Any issues to be aware of or reasons to avoid this bike? I would keep my FJR and use this for my "local" bike :yahoo: .

How's about a BMW K1200R ? It would make a great second bike,and I'm 120 miles from ya. Just thought I'd ask.---------------Ken

I am interested in the boxer, not another inline 4.

Thanks

Has your shop done any valve adjustments on the FJR. I am about due for the 26,000

I have heard a many times that the 1150 runs a lot smoother than the 1200 boxer

and not aware of any FD issues on that model either...

FWIW

A wealthy aquaintance purchased one of those things, for his wife. Her 'dream bike". It sucks. She rides just enough to say she owns a motorcycle - in short, for looks. I don't think there's 2,000 miles on the bike. In the three or four years they've owned it, I couldn't count the times it's been in the shop.

I can certainly see why one would be priced 'for a really good deal'. My advice would be, buy a Sportster, if you want a cruiser for a 'local bike'. I don't think much of Harleys, but I would highly reccomend one, compared to a BMW.

Whatever choice you make, I wish you the best of luck with a second bike.

The 1150 R series is pretty reliable. Early models had surging issues, but the twin spark (2004 is a twin spark) fixed the issue. Final drive failures are uncommon in the the 1150 R's as well. The only other annoyance is the "whizzy" brakes of the Gen I ABS. Other than the ABS system they are dead simple to maintain. The ABS service requires some special knowledge, but is well within reach of the average shade tree mechanic. 1150's still have non-canbus electrical systems, no EWS controllers or may of the other frailties that plauge the 1200 series. I wish I still had my 1150 RT.

Are we talking about the same bike, an 1150 boxer twin with a "street fighter" profile It is about as far from cruiser as you can get? It is not exactly a a female posers dream bike, to be honest it is a form over function bike and to me is butt ugly, but I like the function.

Its like any other shim under bucket valvetrain setup.Depending on what size shims it may need, if any, will be the only delay in completion.I'd be glad to do it for you.I have the time these days,so please let me know if I can help.I'll be going down to Chas. the weekend of Dec. 6-7 to bring a friends bike back for tires and a service.I can pick yours up on the way back as long as your willing to come and get it when its done. Please let me know if any of this sounds like something you wanna do.Thanks-------Ken
I also understand about the inline 4 thing.

My experience with the new boxers is that they are VERY dependable these days(my .02 cents)
