the exhaust is lots of fun around town, but I'm not enjoying the droan at highway speeds

I assume the bike was cold . . . if not, adjust the warm idle down to about 1100 RPM.

yeap cold hence the startup revs and the low blip revs (well relatively cold, it was ~100F in the garage today)

Didn't sound all that much louder than stock to me.. Put some earplugs in and you'll love it.
