Looking for opinions..... I have a 2004 FJR non-ABS with 28k on it and its been a great bike :yahoo: A friend has a 2005 FJR with ABS and get this ONLY 3000 miles on it and it is completely shock and has offered to me for $7000.00, I know all my Farkles will swap over from the 04 to the 05, So what I'm asking is would it be worth it... I have owned hundreds of bikes over the years but never owned one with ABS  I could likely do the swap from the 04 to the 05 with a cost of $1000-$1500 based on what clean 04's are selling for.

Thank You for your feedback,

Thank You for your feedback,
seeing as the two are the same, except for color and on the 05, ABS. Is the ABS worth $1500 to you? For me, no. I feel your temptatiion, tough to pass up a 5yr old fjr with only 3k on the clock.

Thank You for your feedback,
So, you're looking at exactly the same bike in a different color with ABS.

I own an 05 without abs. It's an interesting thought, but I'd line up a sale for the 04 first. The used bike market is a wierd place right now.

I bought my 05 with 23,000 miles from a dealer. It was a one owner bike (I spoke with the original owner), the bike was never down, and well maintained.

I bought it for $6K. Surprised the **** outta me.

My previous ride was an 04 Kawasaki Concours. I farkeled the hell out of it and was only able to get $3900 for it.

You're gonna remove the farkles from the 04 to swap onto the 05.

I've seen asking prices on 04's from $5500 to over 8000. I wonder what they're actually bringing.

Let us know how it works out. I'd be interested to hear what the 04 brings.

Two are almost always better than one. You should have both of them, one for a spare and in case a friend comes over and wants to ride with you.

Oh and by the way, a 2004 in Southern Cal. with farkles just sold for 4500.00. here on this forum. I almost bought that one myself.

One "non-step off" will pay the $1500 for the ABS. Mine has only kicked in a couple of times in the 6 years I've had my 04 but that would still be a couple of grand. Ian, Iowa

So breaking it down, you're getting ABS and 25k miles for +/- $1500. Not too bad a deal IMO. As you've said, farkles will interchange but also look at tires and battery. No doubt the '05 still has the original tires on it, so those could be swapped to the '04 when sold. Battery same idea. If the market is strong where you are and the '04 will sell, then why not swap for the bass boat blue?

Good Luck.

A year newer bike, abs, and less miles. I would do it if it. But like it was said above, the used market is unpredictable now. I just traded my 02 GS(27k miles) for an 08 FJR AE(6K miles) even with a trailer and accessories. Some wierd deals going on now.

Quick look at NADA will give you an idea of what you should be paying, modified by area, condition, extras, etc. Given the very low miles, it actually sounds like a pretty good deal.

I can't believe no one has given the "obvious" advice.

+ BUY THE BIKE

+ Move your farkles over

+ SWAP plastic -keep your unique silver

+ SWAP the ECU

+ Sell the '04 with the blue plastic and 05 ECU

You're welcome

....but really the 04 is the most sought-after year so you might just take that 1000bucks, give your beauty some nice attention and run her until her legs go straight out on the trail ---and that likely will be many years and miles down the line.

You will be getting basically a new bike with ABS for $1500 or less. Doesn't sound like too bad a deal. Maybe your buddy will come off the price another $500 if you point out old tires and battery.

Well thanks for all the feedback :drinks: I will be bring home the 05 next weekend and start the Farkle swap over when I get back from the Smokys on the 04 and get the 05 ready for a trip to Colorado in July and the Adirondack's in August.

why are 04s more sought after than 05s? What is the difference in the ECUs?
