I recently bought a 2005 FJR with a (supposedly) bad engine. I bought a used 2010 motor on Ebay, but while waiting for the replacement to show up I did get the old engine running. It has really low compression on two cylinders, but it does run.

I would like to offer any parts to forum members before I dispose of it. I do have a 2010 stator with a road-rashed cover available as well. Let me know what you need.....I'd rather it go to someone who can use it.

Just out of curiosity, what was the mileage on the 2005?
89,000 miles. The intake was really dirty. I mean like almost mud on the inside of the fuel rail and inside the intake leading to the valves. I imagine a previous owner didn't change the air filter or didn't have it installed correctly. I put a bit of oil down each cylinder and got it to start and run, put over 100 miles on it before switching to the new motor.

Very generous to make the offer. I would think that someone here could use a few bits and pieces - injectors, throttle bodies, water pump, starter (if OK), stator, coolant pipe, coils/plug wires etc. Not that too much goes wrong with the FJR engines but sometimes bits are needed (often because of a self-maintenance "OOPS").

How was the experience of putting a Gen II engine into a Gen I? I think I read about one other person who did it. Hope you get many miles of enjoyment out of it.

It was very straight forward as far as the swap was concerned. Just a few things needed to get swapped from one engine to the other, and I had to fabricate one engine mount (the triangle shaped one above the countershaft).

My wife is getting on me for having this engine in the garage, so please ask away for anything you may need. I don't have the throttle bodies, they stayed with the bike.

Thanks for the offer. Coincidentally, my FJR stranded me tonight when I stalled it and it wouldn't restart due to my tired 117,000 mile original starter. So I'd be interested in the starter so I can overhaul it and have it ready to install once I tackle the big job of removing the old one.

Starter.......Merry Christmas,I have one that I know works!

Good job. I was the first one to swap Gen II to Gen I 07 into 05 .

No need to fab left lower engine bracket just use Gen II part. $20 at most. Part took 10 days or so came from Japan. Some on Ebay

Speed sensor bolts in. Black wire from shift sensor gives you neutral ground. Lower bracket Gen. II Use Gen I throttle body.
