Upgrade to 1st gen FZ-1 mirrors, you'll be glad you did.

The view is quite a "revelation".

The part number for the right mirror is 3P6-262900-00-P2. I have the new 2012 model that it pretty much identical to 2006. They're the same blue, definitely. My new '12 was tipped over day one and scratched up the left mirror so I looked into getting a replacement. The list price is $97.50. My local shop wanted $102. I looked online and found it for $68.88. I placed and order for it and received it quickly. Even though it was ordered as a 2006 mirror, it is the same exact model number and I can confirm it is the same exact mirror, color, shape, everything. If $68.88 sounds good then let me know and I can send you a link to the online vendor I ordered it from.

Hey Pilot, I checked out the pricing on the fz1 mirrors and they are a little cheaper,60. each but won't I also need all the mounting hardware? thanks

I found this webpage that may be helpful. Scroll about halfway down and you'll find a picture of the guy putting an fz1 mirror on his FJR while the other side still has the stock mirror on. It'll give you an idea what it will look like. You shouldn't need any additional mounting hardware. After removing the stock mirror, use the stock lock nuts to screw on the new mirror.

Maybe someday I'll think about switching to the fz1 mirrors but I'm just getting to know the FJR and I quite like the look of the stock mirrors over the look of the fz1, which I found funny the guy calls "dumbo ears." I'm sure, like the guys in on that website mentions, I would be extremely happy with the fz1 mirrors once I saw how much I could see out of them. If I could get convex mirrors mounted in the stock mirror arms, I would be an extremely happy camper. I had convex mirrors on my old Vulcan and LOVED them!

Tim, and Rockmurph...Don't waste your time and money on convex covers, blindspot mirrors and other half-assed solutions that will only partially work.

Buy the FZ1 mirrors and be amazed at being able to see more than your shoulders and elbows. I loved my OEM mirrors, but the day I tucked my elbow in to look behind me on my mountain bike, I knew it was too much.

Bought and mounted the FZ1 mirrors and love them. They look great, and no one will ever know they are not OEM. I can also see behind me which is great. You should seriously try them.

Tim, I prefer stock mirror over the FZ1 alternative. For the same reason I prefer a stock trunk, it just fits the lines and for that matter color matching ties it together for a clean look.

BTW - If you have not already, be sure to install sliders in case that new bike surprises you from an awkward stop or start. It happened to my neighbor but he just got his FJR and had only ridden it 300 miles by then. He came to a stop on an uneven road and found his footing insufficient to stop the slow tipping. Scratched up his fairing & mirror. If that happened to me, that's when I wished I had FZ1 mirrors on and the stock ones tucked away and undamaged.

I ordered the fz1 mirrors, 50 bucks. they also had them for 19 from china, singapore and so on so hopefully these 50 dollar ones are decent quality. Should be here anyday. Thanks for the help guys. Then I will have a left mirror for sale and a damaged right one that I jd welded back together. lol

HA! Yeah, I know that story well. I already tipped mine over day 1 in a parking lot while riding it around to get a feel for the bike. I came to a quick stop and went to put my foot down flat. I must have been used to the low center of gravity for cruisers because I didn't expect the top heavy feel of this bike. It started tipping and before I knew it I couldn't stop it. Laid it right down. Oh, and the frame sliders were still on order. LOL

This is why I had to replace the left mirror. The rest of the bike is fine. The mirror took the brunt of the damage. On a positive note, I can now use the old, scratched mirror as "touch-up paint practice."

There are frame sliders on there now.

If you buy the FZ1 mirrors, do NOT go the cheap eBay route. The mirrors will suck, and you'll eventually end up spending the money on Genuine Yamaha mirrors.

RM, if you bought knock-offs, send them back before you even open them.

Ask anyone that bought the cheapies how bad they were...
