Well, It's 0400. I've got a doctor's appointment at 1100 in Richmond, CA (90 miles away) and then have to go to work at 1800. But IT WAS WORTH IT!!!!!

Adjusted the idle. Did the throttle spring mod. Put grip puppies on. Did the barbarian mod. Been at it since 1800 last night. But the throttle has been tamed. Thanks to those who have developed these modifications. My poor carpel tunnel throttle wrist thanks you. (Even though I'm probably going to have it "worked" on sooner or later). At least now I can ride this GREAT motorcycle with less pain, or fear and trepidation!!!

Next up. Risers, bigger windshield, a real cruise control, new seat (lower), high heels, and probably a throttle lock. Oh yeah, probably get the mpg fix also.

Then I can paint/repair/replace the damage done when I fell over like the little guy on his tricycle in the "Laugh In" series. If you don't know who I'm talking about, then I'm sure you don't understand why all this was necessary. But, give it a few years and you too will "understand" grasshopper. :assassin:  ;)

I would really be interested in hearing how the later builds of the 2006 are, compared to mine. I wouldn't doubt that Mother Yamaha has, one way or another, "fixed" many, if not all, of the problems which I have encountered.

Be that as it may, I'm now a happy camper. I can see light at the end of the tunnel. I'm pleased that this beast is going to be all that I knew it was.

Dont count on yamaha fixing these things your mentioned. As far as there concerned, the only problem was the MPG thing. Your lucky that you were capable of performing those farkles. Without them, this bike is a totally different beast. Once there done, your set up nice (the way it should have been in the first place. )

Enjoy the new and improved ride. Look at a corbin seat if your trying to get lower to the ground (corbin drops you close to 2 inches). There are no riser yet available for the 06, but www.helibar.com just came out with a new triple clamp that brings the bars back 1.5 inches (and rumor has it that they will make a riser to go with it). More on that later (mine suppose to be installed this weekend (thanks to pappy)).

Awesome. Glad it's worked out for you. I too, will be doing the Barbarian and Throttle spring mods on my new 06A. The lean surges and very stiff throttle pull are my only concerns with the bike. Other than that, It's everything everyone said it was, and more. :D

Two things:

1- what risers are you going to get?

2- when you say "real cruise", what are you using now if anything?

I'll be waiting to hear how you like helibar triple clamp, I've been following it's progress. Not cheap, but getting the weight off my wrists is VERY high on my list. Two inches?, that is the magic number for me. Thanks for the heads up on the Corbin seat.

It's a little early yet, but on my trip to fuel up this AM the throttle was smooth with NO HESITATION trailing off itle. I just "slipped" the spring one revolution, it snapped right back in place. Seems to be less spring tension now. The engine seems to be running cooler. 4 bars vs 6 normally. Raised the CO by 7 for each cylinder. I'll be able to tell much better after my ride into the Bay area. Supposed to get up to 95 degrees today and I'll know better after a longer ride. And, oh yeah did I say there was virtually NO HESITATION :yahoo:

I think (hope) your results will equal mine.... I'll know more definitively today.

Risers? Probably the helibar triple clamp and add risers to that. I'm not using anything yet, although like I said, I DO have CTS, so I may get a cheap throttle lock. I'd rather spend the $ on a "real" cruise control, which I will need for touring.

Wasn't me, Mary. Might have been Michael Krause. I think he lives in Elk Grove also. But I will be "tooling around" the area, so be sure to wave! :D

Well, back to bed for a quick nap, before heading to the Bay. I'll give a fuller account of the "Much improved, slightly damaged" FJR later.. Then, I think it will be safe to add this one to the problem 2006, problem solved column.

Not trying to poo-poo on the Corbin here as YMMV. I also purchased a front Corbin and my tip-toe footing has not changed in the slightest. While the seat may sit lower (seating portion, not up at the tank) the seat is actually wider which seams to have negated and lowering affect.

I plan on having them do some shaving on the seat once I actually put some miles on it to see if it adjusts itself a tad. Again, might just be my experience but I purchased this seat specifically for the claimed 2" lower height and frankly just do not see it. :-(

We'll see what happens after it's broken in and I get an adjustment done. I'm hopefull. :)

Well I have done every mod possible and even tho its much better it has only got me to be able to ride .5 hour rather than 15 min before right hand goes num. So now I am getting a throttle lock...chepper than surgery ;)

Get a throttle lock!!!!!

Among all my many and $$$ farkles, I consider my $20 VistaCruise the single most critical farkle I have. It would be the one most difficult to live without.

Once you have gotten used to it, all it takes is a fraction of a second to engage/disengage. I do it automatically now. So even if only for a couple seconds, I will engage it which allows me to relax my throttle hand. This is absolutely critical to relieve the numb hand.

I cannot stress enough, GET A THROTTLE LOCK!!!

I highly recommend the VistaCruise as it's cheap, simple, easy to install, extremely easy to use, and effective.

It was my experience with my feej that after a few thousand miles, the suspension relaxed and lowered a bit. When new, I could plant one foot flat and on with the heel raised. Now, both feet plant easily flat. Just a thought.

Yeah, width would do it. Thanks for the heads up... I'll keep looking. 2 inches lower = 2 inches of risers, too. Still need more pull back, though.

You are reading my mind (and that of my wife, too.). Right now, I had better try NOT to spend too much more money on MC's, or this :assassin: with red hair will come after me.

You are right though. Just made a 180 mile run into the bay, for a doctor's appointment. I was running late so I had to run hot. (85 mph plus/minus). Avg milage showed 36.5 m/gal. That is about 5 m/g better than normal. This bike isn't really broken in, only 1700 miles. The throttle spring mod helped a lot. My wrist pain was less, and the numbness took much longer to arrive. Seems to run a little smoother and transition from trailing to throttle a little "nicer". However, I do have CTS and will install a TL ASAP. I had the same problem on my VTX1800C, though not as bad. Surgery will be required, but I'm basically a baby about things like that.

In short, this bike is sooooo awesome... definitely a KEEPER. Very ride-able now. Glad I've spent 25 years "aiming high in steering", you can get behind this one real quick.. Also helps spotting the Chippies.
