Any dealer-types able to confirm/deny the rumor that all 2006 R1 LE models have been spoken for?

p.s. if an admin sees this, please change R1 Le to R1 LE.

Sounds like dealer heresay BS to me. Generally, they'll say this if they can't get a bike to sell as they want to talk you into something else.

This will probably be a high demand bike, but don't believe the hype. The R7 was an impossible to get bike when it first appeared, but a year later, a lot of R7's were languishing on showroom floors at substantial discounts.

Maybe its a matter of the nomenclature.

Perhaps they have all been 'allocated', but, not necessarily sold.

If I understand what the dealer told me, THE DEALER had to put up $2500 to get an R1 LE. The money didn't have to be put up by a customer.

I have seen the official Yamaha dealership sales bulletin on the LE.

According to Cypress, dealers are LIMITED to ordering only two (2) R1-LEs per dealership.

And Randy is correct, it's a $2500.00 cost to the dealership!!! For the deposit!!

Both allocated LE's have been ordered by Sunnyside and are spoken for.... no, I am NOT getting one, but I will have the opportunity to assemble it out of the crate, and of course, the initial test ride...

Unfortunately, that's the forum software "feature" that's doing that.... it thinks only the first letter can be capitalized, and automagically lower-cases the rest of the letters in a word... kinda dumb, I know, but....

So thats what happened. I could have sworn I wrote PCIII not PCIii several times.....

You guys are correct, the LE R1 is a $2500 from the dealer, but I'm SURE they won't pass that onto the end buyer, being a limited edition and all, will probably be hard to sell... I'll wait for a leftover

I think they will sell out without a lot of problems. Only 500 will be imported to NA, according to Cypress.

The powerplant is still essentailly the same awesome R1 that is sold alongside non-LE models... the bulk of the differences are bolt-on. Olins suspension, different radial brakes, Marchesini wheels, slipper clutch, etc. and of course, the paint job.

I know it's heresy to say this in most Yamaha camps, but the fact of the matter is... I really don't care for that yellow/black paint theme. I know it's steeped in tradition, yadda-yadda, but if I was ever going to score a R1-LE model, I'd want this totally-tits "SP" version that Europe gets:

Yep, I recall reading that.... but assuming it's not a mis-print, I wonder if Yamaha Canada is being a little bit coy with their wording here... their web site says that there will only be 1000 models "produced", and the YamahaUSA site says 500 models "produced".... yet neither site specifically mentions the word "imported". Is it possible that 1000 units will indeed come to North America, with 500 going to the US and 500 to Canada?

Yamaha Canada is no where near the size/market that the USA is, so I dunno why they would be allocated twice as many LE models. I can see where 1000 of these expensive toys might find themselves lanquishing in snow-bound Canada.... who knows...

I agree with Warchild that SP is awesome, would even rather have that then a Boss Hoss!! :D

Is it feasible to import a european version from Canada??

P.S. I asked a local dealer about terms and conditions. I was told they hadn't ordered any yet, but it would be $1,000 to me.

Hmmm, trip to Europe, bring back new toy..., that's the package I'd be interested in. :aggressive:

It's pretty common for bikes purchased in CA to be brought into the US. Wouldn't have the slightest idea on how to do it, but, it could be done.

The Canadian version looks like the European SP, but, is called an LE.

$26K CDN.

At todays exchange rate, that puts it at about $22K US.
