As I was coming up to the house after coming home from church today through town, I noticed the heat gage was at 5 bars and didn't hear any fans kicking on. In fact, I parked in the garage and looked at the right side opening on the fairing and the fans weren't running with the engine on although it has never been this warm so I wasn't really looking for this and the temps are running around 90 degrees today so, does anyone know about when these fans are suppose to come on? Never had water-cooled systems before and not familiar with this set-up. The manual makes no mention of this situation. Any input? Thanks, PM. <><

I'm not sure, but to add to the information pool....

Earlier last week after a ride I was idling next to the garage for a minute or two when I heard the fan come on. Not a huge sound, but it was noticable.

Then a couple nights later I was doing some low-speed stuff in the neighborhood. I didn't pay any attention to the temp gauge as I parked it, but the fan wasn't on when I parked it. About 30 seconds after turning it off I remembered that I had something in the left compartment, so I turned the key to on in order to open it. I was kinda surprised to hear the fan come on (since it wasn't on when I parked it).

So I know that mine comes on, but I'm not sure at what point that is. And that temp can be reached with some post ride heat migration to where the heat sensor is.

I have heard it come on - but I had parked the bike when hot, turned it off - and then turned on the key about 1 minute later - and the fans kicked in. I've not noticed it when riding - even in 20 mpg lane splitting during commute traffic on the 405.

212 degrees is when the fan kicks in. Its the magic number for most bikes. Cools things down about 10 degrees and kicks off.

The '06s must have a different temperature gauge because the '03-'05 bikes come on at 4 bars.

I've read other's posts about the bike running up to 6 bars, so if someone could find out how many bars are on the '06 gauge it might be helpful as a comparison.

I noticed mine while stuck in trafic and idling in the garage afterwashing the bike (It was steaming the windshield) They are very quiet. I believe it is six bars (two past the midpoint indicator) I think there are 8 bars total on the 06 but not looking at the bike right now

Thanks for the input. I was concerned to the number of bars indicated on the temp meter as I thought I had read on another post as 4 bars being the point the fan would come on. I guess on the 06 the meter must be different than previous models as indicated by Madmike. I'll keep an eye on when the fan comes on and compare to FJRFencer's readout as it will get hot here in North CA. PM. <><
