I saw this topic on STN an figured I would start it here as well. So what kind of year did you have in 2006? This was what my year was like.
January 06, after 2 interviews with a different company I was all set to take a job as their Operations Supervisor. This meant no more working nights & weekends, I would have been on call 24/7 but it beats working over night on the Help desk & operations. BUT NOOO!!, the new CIO of the company decided that the position wasn't needed. BAD I didn't get the job, GOOD that I found this out before leaving to take it.
May 13, 2006. GOOD!! Bluebear got her 06 FJR. Of course it was raining, bad, but the dealer delivered it to our garage at no charge, VERY GOOD!
July 18, 2006. BAD. My 14 year old cat Stimpy passed away. I had him from conception to the last day, he was a great cat. I love him and miss him still.
August 4-12, 2006. GOOD no GREAT. Bluebear and I and 2 of our friends went on an 8 day journey to the Smokie mountains. We rode the Dragon, Cherohala(sp), Foothills Pkwy and the entire length of the Blue Ridge. This was the first vacation Bluebear and I took in 3 years and it was a GREAT time.
September 15-17, 2006. Good. Planned and attended CFO 06 in Sparta WI. Got to meet some great people from the FJR Forum and had a great time riding in SW WI and drinking and telling lies with new friends.
October 06. GOOD Dante's Dame, from the STN board, used one of the photos I sent in for the STN calender. The pic is of my FJR by the 0 Mile marker on the BRP.
December 15, 2006. BAD, REAL BAD. after a week in the hospital my dad passed away. He had battled lung cancer in 2002 and after Chemo & radiation they gave him 2 years to live. Early in 06 the cancer was back and had spread. He also had emphysema(sp), this is what did him in. The last few days in the hospital he had trouble berating and was in pain. They were giving him morphine every 2 hours, then they started a morphine drip, 4mg per hour. That Friday, Dec 15th, I had spent the day with him & my stepmom in the hospital, I felt like a vulture waiting for him to die. I got home about 5 PM and had to run my wife over to the repair shop to get her car. After we got back I got the call about 8 PM to go back to the hospital. when I got there he was gone. At least he isn't suffering anymore.
The funeral was on the 20th and as Dad had been in the Air Force there was an honor guard there to meet him. When the hearse pulled up they saluted as there was a flag draped over Dads coffin. After a short ceremony the honor guard folded the flag and presented it to my Stepmom, she told them to give it to my brother. This was unexpected and my brother balled like a little kid, so did I. Afterwards my brother asked if I knew she was going to do that and I said no, I had no idea she was. He also asked if I was OK with him getting the flag, I was as he is the oldest son. My brother and I stayed after everyone had left as we could watch them seal the crypt where dad is interred.
There were times this past summer when I would go over on the bike abd we would be out front and Dad would look at the bike and say how cool it was. I should have brought one of my other helmets with and taken him for a ride but I was kind of afraid that something may have happened to him while on it. There are things I would have liked to ask my dad but didn't, one of my regrets, but in the last year we had gotten closer and I'm greatful for the time we had together.
Rest in Peace Dad.
So for me 2006 was good and bad. I just hope 2007 is better.
