I saw this topic on STN an figured I would start it here as well. So what kind of year did you have in 2006? This was what my year was like.

January 06, after 2 interviews with a different company I was all set to take a job as their Operations Supervisor. This meant no more working nights & weekends, I would have been on call 24/7 but it beats working over night on the Help desk & operations. BUT NOOO!!, the new CIO of the company decided that the position wasn't needed. BAD I didn't get the job, GOOD that I found this out before leaving to take it.

May 13, 2006. GOOD!! Bluebear got her 06 FJR. Of course it was raining, bad, but the dealer delivered it to our garage at no charge, VERY GOOD!

July 18, 2006. BAD. My 14 year old cat Stimpy passed away. I had him from conception to the last day, he was a great cat. I love him and miss him still.

August 4-12, 2006. GOOD no GREAT. Bluebear and I and 2 of our friends went on an 8 day journey to the Smokie mountains. We rode the Dragon, Cherohala(sp), Foothills Pkwy and the entire length of the Blue Ridge. This was the first vacation Bluebear and I took in 3 years and it was a GREAT time.

September 15-17, 2006. Good. Planned and attended CFO 06 in Sparta WI. Got to meet some great people from the FJR Forum and had a great time riding in SW WI and drinking and telling lies with new friends.

October 06. GOOD Dante's Dame, from the STN board, used one of the photos I sent in for the STN calender. The pic is of my FJR by the 0 Mile marker on the BRP.

December 15, 2006. BAD, REAL BAD. after a week in the hospital my dad passed away. He had battled lung cancer in 2002 and after Chemo & radiation they gave him 2 years to live. Early in 06 the cancer was back and had spread. He also had emphysema(sp), this is what did him in. The last few days in the hospital he had trouble berating and was in pain. They were giving him morphine every 2 hours, then they started a morphine drip, 4mg per hour. That Friday, Dec 15th, I had spent the day with him & my stepmom in the hospital, I felt like a vulture waiting for him to die. I got home about 5 PM and had to run my wife over to the repair shop to get her car. After we got back I got the call about 8 PM to go back to the hospital. when I got there he was gone. At least he isn't suffering anymore.

The funeral was on the 20th and as Dad had been in the Air Force there was an honor guard there to meet him. When the hearse pulled up they saluted as there was a flag draped over Dads coffin. After a short ceremony the honor guard folded the flag and presented it to my Stepmom, she told them to give it to my brother. This was unexpected and my brother balled like a little kid, so did I. Afterwards my brother asked if I knew she was going to do that and I said no, I had no idea she was. He also asked if I was OK with him getting the flag, I was as he is the oldest son. My brother and I stayed after everyone had left as we could watch them seal the crypt where dad is interred.

There were times this past summer when I would go over on the bike abd we would be out front and Dad would look at the bike and say how cool it was. I should have brought one of my other helmets with and taken him for a ride but I was kind of afraid that something may have happened to him while on it. There are things I would have liked to ask my dad but didn't, one of my regrets, but in the last year we had gotten closer and I'm greatful for the time we had together.

Rest in Peace Dad.

So for me 2006 was good and bad. I just hope 2007 is better.

2006 was an eventful year for me.

I started out recovering from back surgery that I had in Dec 05.

I got elected to the board of trustees for my disability and pension board.

I went to Ft Lauderdale for training for above position and took wife and kids to Disney World while out there.

Went on an incredible two and a half week cross country motorcycle trip, hitting 22 states as well as getting to run the Dragon.

Had my motorcycle (2002 Bandit) catch fire in the garage after said trip destroying every vehicle I own and causing nearly $350,000 in total damages (still not back in my house yet).

Managed to get my kids and I out of the house safely! (wife wasn't home at the time).

Got promoted to sergeant.

GOT A NEW 2006 FJR to replace the crispy Bandit!

Smashed my face in while chasing a bad guy requiring surgery.

Had a wonderful Christmas even though turkey doesn't puree well in a blender after said injury.

But, had Christmas off because of injury! :)

All in all, actually a pretty good year. No permanent injuries. Didn't lose anything in the fire. Had many wonderful experiences throughout.

I'd start my own blog but being drunk most of the time is boring to everyone but me.

Went through my first full year of retirement... it was terrible... I cried myself to sleep every night.

Odot did not start a blog...

It was a good year.

You just made my funny list, zzzzzip. Watch your drinks for flies from here on out.

I would have to say it has been a very good year. Been to see some new places, met many new and great peeps, I still love my wife, and most importantly, she still loves me.

2006 was a year when bad stuff happened yet we learned just how great friends and our kids are.

Feb: DH got his dream bike - a BMW K1200S. We both now have bikes well suited to longer rides. Some serious mileage is planned.

May: Careless driver totals the bike and puts Andy in the hospital for five weeks. He has to recuperate at home for two months before going back to work. Our friends, both in-person and virtual, were amazing. The kids demonstrated that they could behave like responsible adults.

June: Careless driver totals Andy's truck, while it's parked outside our house.

July: Andy's Mom died. Rushed trip to England, with him in a wheelchair. Not much fun. Heard a rumor that our son had fired up the dirt bike and lifted his Dad onto it for a spin around the block. Neither felt the need for son to drive behind the bike. (All done while I was at work).

August: Bought a Jeep Grand Cherokee to replace his truck. Much easier for me to drive than the big truck.

August: The replacement K1200S comes home with us. He can only ride a few miles at a time before the pain gets unbearable. Great deal from BMW - with touring bags/brackets thrown in. Garmin added a free GPS too.

October: Weekend at Femmoto with the girls. We rode there and back and spent two days on the track as Las Vegas Speedway. I fell in love with Kawasaki's Ninja 650R.

November: Andy was well enough to ride to, and participate in Streetmasters' Precision Cornering workshop. But, on the way there his tire found some algae hidden until standing water. He didn't have the strength to save the bike from a tumble. Cosmetic damage only, and he was OK.

December: DD finally got her drivers' license (she's 22). She and her brother conspired with Dad to gift wrap a Ninja 650R to surprise me for Christmas. :yahoo:

Sure, lots of bad stuff happened but it reminded us to treasure the good things in life.

You, my friend, are a "glass is half full" type of guy. 2007 HAS to be better, and with your positive attitude it will be. :clapping: :clapping:

Good luck :clapping:

I thought my year was poor, financially. But I lost no more loved ones, got the FJR and enjoyed the time on the road. For those who lost loved ones I wish you well, I know you will never forget as I too remember a Father and my elder Brother. God bless and have a good 2007.

Oh I don't know you're pretty funny :dribble: most of the time, I fact I prefer ya drunk :yahoo: Hey you're the guy who reminded me to park on a tree.. or was that next to one  ...

Ah an 06 was a decent year got lots done, 07?..... Starting out absofreaking rotten, just about the worst

:jester:

2006

GOOD:

1. Birth of my first baby...a girl

2. Adoption of a 2005 practically new FJR

3. Talked the wife into keeping the other motorcycle in addition to the FJR

BAD:

1. Lotsa layoffs at work and some good people let go.

2006 was a year to remember for sure....both good and bad.

Started with my best friend having his younger brother die in a freak incident. It was a first for me having to go to a funeral for someone younger than myself. There would be news of other friends and family that pass on in 2006 ... not fun.

Medical stuff clears up to enable me to go back to the work I love .. Flying :yahoo:

Buy my FJR in the spring and start to get back on the train of life ... & Mrs Flyer with me 100%

Summer medical stuff comes up and I eventually get a 100% recovered diagnosis for the big "C" :yahoo: ( x100 ) Emotional roller coaster for last 2 years finally comes to an end an turns out excellent.

Do First IBA run with my best buddy Bullit to celebrate being alive.

Celebrate an anniversary and birthday that I was unsure I was ever going to have.

And best part of all ... Got rid of the FNG and training pilot moniker from this forum :D
