2007; Adjusting The Handle Bars - Less Agressive Positon

While my 2007 was in for service, I asked the dealer to adjust the handle bars back to a less agressive position. Out of the three positions available, this is the one where the bars are pulled closer to me allowing me to sit more upright. The dealer made the adjustment then showed me that the handle bars would actually bang the tank when turning full left or full right. :blink: This can't be right! I mean, Yammy would never design an adjustment that causes damage to the bike. What did the dealer do wrong?

I did read the link on how to adjust the handle bars but I did not see my answer there.

Assuming you have the stock tripple tree, your dealer is wrong. You can run them as close to the rider as possible and they will NOT hit the tank. They are designed to be moved back or forward. For what it's worth I run mine as close to me as possible, but then again, I'm short

That certainly doesn't make any sense - you are pulling the bars AWAY from the tank and toward your body!!

Sounds like yet another dealer that doesn't know what he's doing.

It isn't hard to adjust the bars . . . why not try to set them up yourself? - that way you won't be listening to an ***** (or maybe you will, but you won't be paying for the priviledge).

I figured as much. I feel like the dealer just did not want to do it anyway. I'll make my own adjustments. Thanks for the great help!

Dealer probably doesn't know how to move them back! Read up on the forum--loosen both bars at the same time--and it is a 5 minute job.

Let me offer a small, but critically important tip... Loosen both handlebars at the same time before you begin moving things around. I made the mistake of trying to relocate one side while the other was still screwed down tight. That did not work. They are both connected to a plate under the triple clamps and both must be completely loosened to make the proper adjustments.
