Yamaha For 2006 & 2007 - "the rear brake pedal activates two rear pistons and the other two front pistons—for balanced anti-lock braking in all conditions"

Then, Yamaha says this for 2008 - "the rear brake pedal activates one rear piston and the other two front pistons—for balanced anti-lock braking in all conditions"

Can someone physically confirm this with the mark I eyeball??

Also, is the 2008 rear brake now getting action with the front brake (with another piston), unlike 2006/2007??

The spec sheet says that the '08 gets a revised ABS system. Perhaps they now speak of the entire braking system as the ABS system?

2007 sez:

Standard equipment Unified Braking System w/ABS: The front brake lever activates six of the eight front braking pistons and two rear pistons; the rear brake pedal activates two rear pistons and the other two front pistons—for balanced anti-lock braking in all conditions.

So, assuming they didn't change the rear caliper from a dual piston to a single piston, it sounds like they might have separated the 2 pistons in the rear?

This sounds like a question for the magazine guys. Why dontcha post it on Cycle World forums or someplace like that and let 'em get the real scoop from Yammie when they review?

Well, I don't know.

What I do know, is that Yamaha themselves has incorrectly described the FJR's brake system in the past in their online product description.

So I think we will all be in the dark on this one until the 08s start physically showing up.

Thanks Randy, I didn't see that.

That's what I was thinking.

.....waiting for an 08 owner......

The rear caliper has always been a single piston unit. There is no piston on the left side of the disc.

I don't think anything has changed on the brakes except for a new design ABS unit and new type of wheel speed sensors. The ABS control module will be incorporated into the ABS unit rather than as a separate electronics module on the existing models.

Yep, which means the brakes are only linked REAR TO FRONT, not front to rear. However, if you only use the front lever, won't have full braking force (only 6 out of 8 pistons). Hope this clears any remaining confusion.

Yamaha has made small changes in the rear caliper. On my '04 FJR the bleed screw is on the top of the caliper. On the '06 the bleed screw is on the side of the caliper next to the hose connection.

Yamaha does like to tweak their products and not always for the better.

Already knew that, that wasn't the information in question.

The discrepancy was the information on the rear brake (as suspected)....Thanks Constant Mesh.
