No way in California can you ride out without a license or for that matter without proof of insurance.
I'm not in California, in MN. But Radman is right, dealers only care about the sale. How do I know? I bought my V-star 4 years ago that way. Didn't have a motorcycle endorsement or insurance. Got everything after the fact. I did have previous experience with cycles so I wasn't totally cold with riding cycles, but never got asked at all.

Repairman-I usually see you over on the other forum (FZ-1). I am now on this forum as I will be trading in my '06 FZ-1 in next spring for an '07 FJR which I have a deposit on. I was not willing to spend more money on it to make it right (FI hesistation). These FZ-1's must be dogs as I could not sell mine since August even at more than $2000 under MSRP. Glad to see your coming over to the other side.

Hey Rumble, hope you won't be disappointed with the FI hesitation on the FJR, I also ride an '06 FZ1 and find the throttle response on the FZ no worse than on my '06 feejer. I took the slack out of the throttle cable on both bikes and have no (major) complaints on either bike. It also was a learning curve to get used to it.
I'm easily siding with Petey on this one. :)

Rumble, I could have bought any bike in the litre class I wanted, and also could have taken the FZ1 back from my very first ride and gotten out of the sale, but it hasn't had nearly the FI throttle transition problem as the Honda ST1300 I came off of. Taking the slack out of the cable and practicing some simple throttle control was all I had to do to be smooth on mine. Ivan has a fix (the FCE) for your complaint about the bike for less than $200 bucks.

I am extremely satisfied with my FZ and my only regrets in getting a new FJR is that I really don't have room for both bikes. I'm sorry you have had a bad experience with yours but most guys like the bike well enough to spend a bunch on her just to let a couple more horses loose. I always come back from my rides with a smile on my face in the delight of this bike's great performance attributes, even stock. When I decide to upgrade to an FJR I will be going from one great bike to another.

Hope you enjoy your new FJR when it gets here!

As far as this goes, "These FZ-1s must be dogs as I could not sell mine...".

If you were buying a motorcycle as a lucrative investment you probably should have bought a Harley. As far as I know there aren't any other brands of current bikes being built that you will recuperate all your money from once they're titled.

SEE...some people DO like the new color... :)
Me too, depending on how it looks in person!

Spoke with my dealer (owner) today and he said he's been told by Yamaha he will get 1 (one) '07 in December in time for Christmas. He'll get his others in the spring.

Oh yeah, the one coming in December? I'm all over that baby - if the color is to my liking that is...

The new FZ is pruty :D I was going to get on as a replacement for my 02 FZ1, but after the wife compared FZ and FJR it was clear to me that unless I want a new wife I better get new FJR :D Got a confirmation in the mail today from Jerald on the new 07. Can't wait.

Well,I have bought nine new bikes over the past 10 years in Ca. and I couldn't drive the bike off the dealers showroom without showing proof of insurance and a valid license. So I guess I just go to the wrong dealers. You can trailer them off without showing the two items but not ride off. Dealers in the bay area have been sued by riders that have wrecked their bikes leaving the dealership for failing to check their insurance and license.

In Texas, if you wreck your bike driving out of the dealership's parking lot, they help you....

-into the service dept.

No license check, no insurance check, as long as you have *their check* made out for the bottom line of the invoice! As a result, we have our usual share of 18 - 21 year olds on the highway doing wheelies on their first bike, a (fill-in-the-name of the 1000cc sport bike of your choice)....

Looking forward to seeing the new Feej color 'in person' at the upcoming CycleWorld show next weekend..

Hey guys,I talked to a Yamaha Dealer sales rep friend of mine yesterday that says they have already ordered an 07 for stock.

I was both pleased and surprised to hear that. I assume Yamaha has done away with the PDP finally? ...or have they just put a bike down in an employee or owner's name?

Anyway, he says he will give me a call to come take a look when it hits the floor. I understand the deep red color (black cherry) will knock your eyes out in person. Me like! :yahoo:

Do you think you can you buy a 1400cc big bore kit for this motor? ...as in 08 Concours specs. :dribble:

Roger
The new red color appears to have about the same metal flake content as the blue did. I was not too impressed with the color in the cloudy light conditions I saw it in. I'm sure it looks much brighter and better in sun light. I would imagine it looks black at night. I was hoping for a brighter red. This one has quite a bit of brown in it, almost rust colored in some light.

I was surprized that I had to have my insurance company fax a proof of coverage to the dealer before I could take delivery of mine. (In California) When I bought the 03 in Washington, they didn't ask for anything.

I couldn't get my FJR (or my 2004 VStar 1100 two years ago) off the dealer floor without proof of insurance. In fact I had to scramble getting faxes to the dealer before they closed for the day. And my license was verified and photocopied. I'm in Oregon.

Picked mine up ('06) At Del Amo Motorsports in Redondo Beach, CA and used their phone & fax to get insurance papers on the spot. They copied my license & I rode it back to Arizona the next day...

I see that my visit to your house was not in vain... :D

Thanks to Cota and Ionbeam for letting me check out your FJR's last summer. It's a great bike and great fraternity. Looking forward to being a part of it.

:yahoo: I looked at another Yamaha Model that has the dark cherry paint scheme. I like the blue better. My dealer has my '06 ready for me to pick up in May. The season is pretty much over up here.

OIC...I guess your lucky to find a dealer that will hold it that long. I get up your way a couple times a year, maybe we can hook up.
