Motor Toad:Buells are a might spendy but I think you're a bit off with your price above. The XB12S (Lightning) sold for $10K last year as does it's closest living relative in 2009, the XB12Ss. Could you perhaps be thinking of an XB12X or XT?
Worse, I was going by the tag hanging from the handlebar. This was several years ago when the XB12 first came out, though. Two years ago I rode the 12R and S at Barber so I know exactly how not fast they are, at least in stock, non-120 dB-about-to-grenade form. Don't get me wrong, I like the bike. I like the brake, I think it has close to enough power for street use, and handled really well. But I sure as hell wouldn't spend my money on one. :-\

I really like the concept of the 1125, but reports so far aren't that promising.

Chris D,Yamaha does have an Adventure bike called the Tenere 660, but they don't sell it in this country. May be coming out with a 1200cc version later as well.

That's good to know. You think Yama would want to start selling that here (especially 1200) since BMW is doing so well with their models.

Motor Toad:

I would agree that the initial ignition/fuel injection mapping was not good on the first 1125 model released, the R. Rumor has it that Buell and Rotax had a little English/metric units communication problem with each other similar to the Hubble Telescope mirror issue. I.E., the Engineers finally had a "doh" moment, fixed it and the latest flash of the ECM is reported to have decreased heat, improved mileage, improved drivability, tastes great, less filling, etc. I am waiting for my dealership to install the more upright "Lightning" style bars on an 1125CR before I ride one again. The early press reviews seem to be quite positive on this year's 2009 release CR.

The engine put out impressive power even on the hot running, ill tempered at low revs 1125R I rode to a local bike show for the dealership last summer. The riding position was killing me on the relatively short 100 mile round trip. The new CR model has even lower clubman bars so I'm not interested until a more comfortable model becomes available (like a water cooled Ulysses) or the higher bar/longer cables/brake lines fix things on the CR. I'll post up after my next ride.
