I remove the sensor with every tire change, never even considered leaving it attached. Thorough cleaning and light lube every time and never had any issues. On friends bikes we have run across a couple that were a ***** to remove...
YMMV

The whole point of doing it yourself is you have the time to do everything to a much higher level. There have been cases (probably on Gen1 bikes) where the sensor has actually collapsed due to corrosion. So a few minutes to take apart clean & lubricate seems like time well spent to me.................

I too remove it and lightly lube with silicone spray. Not being a metallurgist, I find it curious that the plastic would bind to the metal. Since plastic doesn't corrode, why would it stick? Is it simply a matter of the I. D. of the hub "shrinking", therefore making for a tighter fit, from the corrosion buildup?

I believe that's what's happening. The two different metals (hub & sensor) set up a corrosion cell in the presence of an electrolyte, especially if they use salt on the roads. It looks like the hub is the Anodic element causing it to 'grow' (due to oxidation) and thus reduce the ID; initially trapping and eventually crushing the sensor.

Just wanted to say thanks for this post. I'm new to this ABS $h!t. I removed both ABS sensors, cleaned lubed and reinstalled.

Life is good once again.
