This is not really a "technical" question, but I really didn't see any other area

that seemed more appropriate to ask it.

The clear lens of the speedometer is cracked. Don't know how it happened. Rode all weekend didn't

notice it, went out of town and left for another weekend ride and it was cracked. Go figure.

My question is;

Is there any difference between a 2008 speedometer/tach/lcd instrument cluster and earlier Gen II's other

than the color?

I am sure I can pick up a replacement upper half of the display (or complete assembly) somewhere cheaper than the $366 dollars

the dealership wants.

Thanks.

I have no experience with replacing a cluster, but I believe from reading other threads on the topic that replacing the entire cluster results in the odometer getting reset back to zero. If that's true, I wonder if it is possible/practical to somehow replace just the lens. I'm sure someone else will come along with better info though. Good luck!!

Thanks for the replies.

I can replace just the "upper half" of the display but the dealer wants $366 just for that part alone. Cold day in hell when I pay that kind of money for plastic trim rings and clear plastic lenses. I thought I would watch EBay hoping to find a instrument cluster for a decent price and just use the top half if the earlier models are

compatible with the 2008 and the only difference is the color. Black vs. silver.

I wish I would have had the forethought to use silicone or something else to fill the crack. It started out as a hairline crack that I first noticed as a shadow

on the face of the speedometer and now is much worse.

Sounds like a lightly used cluster is the way to go.A wild ass guess is any gen 2 will work.
Not even wild ass...all the same except for color.

PM ahchiu, I believe he changed out his '06 bezel with a later model one in black.

Good luck!

I took off the bezel off my 06 and painted it, I do have a extra new gauge lens and bezel, it can easily be painted before you reinstall it. it is held by a few small screws and the bezel is held with double sided tape, you will need to re apply the 3M auto trim tape to the bezel and reinstall.

PM me if your interested.
