MONTEREY, Calif. (July 25, 2008) - Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca officials today announced July 3-5, 2009 are the dates for the fifth annual Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix, featuring the MotoGP World Championship. The new race date will give extra incentive for American riders Nicky Hayden and Colin Edwards as they take on the worlds' best on the most patriotic weekend of the year.
"What better weekend for the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix than the Fourth of July," said Gill Campbell, CEO/general manager for Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
I had a hard enough time trying to convince the wife to let me take off for a weekend with the boys. Now they put the race on a holiday!!! This is going to make it much harder (and more expensive for hotels, etc.) to attend!!! :angry2:

I agree my wife will have an issue with me leaving the family over the 4th of July weekend.

Bummer!

Yeah, it doesn't seem to make a lot of sense in that regard.

Well,

She was not happy, and neither am I, to be honest, but missing 4th vs Missing MotoGP...let's just say I was never that crazy about fireworks anyway. She was kind enough to (after only putting up a little bit of a fight) give in and let me go, but it will also depend on everyone else in our little riding group. We shall see how it pans out. If we decide to go, I want to book a hotel room early so I don't end up paying $300/night, or staying in Gilroy again (which is what we did this time). Not that there is anything wrong with Gilroy, and in fact Hecker Pass Rd in between Gilroy and Watsonville was one of the nicest I have EVER seen in CA, but sometimes it would be nicer to be a little closer. In any case, maybe they will change their minds, they do say "The date for the event is tentative, subject to the release of the full FIM calendar in September." in their press release, but the other verbiage is pretty excited about a 4th of July race!

Well, it not being the weekend before WFO will make it easier for me to attend if I want, and with all three of our adult children in the bay area, this might bode well for me.

They might have some fireworks after the races for the family types.

When do tickets go on sale? I REALLY want to go next year.
Tickets for the event go on sale this November. Reserved camping and hospitality tickets go on sale November 3, while all other tickets - general admission, grandstand, paddock, parade lap and parking - go on sale November 6. Renewal forms will be sent to current customers on September 2.
