If you ride during the dusk and dawn hours where there are deer (read Texas Hill Country), cows, dogs, other small varmints, or any other obstacle that can get in your way and you would know why you would like to have any system that would help you avoid them.

The incident I had; day off from work on a Thursday, 3:00 pm in the afternoon, Sunny skies, one deer crosses in front of me with no problems, next deer (that I did not see because it darted out but blended in with the color of the dried grass on side of road) I side swipe. I got lucky as it was slapped by the mirror of the Suzuki Bandit I was riding, hit my clutch hand, hit me in the arm, hit my chest, and took a nip out of my upper arm (1/2 inch by 1/2 inch gash). I did not fall down but went less than a quater mile and had to pull over. Was not sure if the blood was mine or the deer's at first. After gaterhing my thoughts for 15 minutes, got back on the bike as the only damage was a slight tweak to the bar end weight and went home to get the cage to drive to the hospital to get looked at.

Would the system have helped me at this time of day, maybe and maybe not. But if it were during the dawn hours near my house, I would say more than likely. There are a lot of deer near the area where I live. I see light posts and marks in the retaining walls along the road all the time and I am sure what they are from.

My real question, do you have to buy a "special" Kawasaki integrated helmet for the system or are they going to somehow put the system on the helmet you currently own ?

Interesting. So, will it work reliably? And how much $$$?

Too bad it won't be a 'near infra-red' system. Besides animals, I would love some far reaching warning of tire gators on the road. Had a rider killed on I-10 here last weekend when he hit one with full gear on.

Kudos to Kawi for trying to stretch the envelope with some high-tech that could be useful.

And RB's - read the full article. Head's up system will mount to exterior of a 'normal' motorcycle helmet.

I wonder if it would help when "flying the playa"?

Good for Kawi for pushing the technology envelope. This could be the first step into what could become a "normal" addition to ATGATT.

Whatever the cost, it would certainly be mitigated by the production volume (look at the improvements in all technology fields from calculators to PCs) and would prove invaluable if it saves a rider from the dangers listed in the first few posts.

Relax, guys... Kawasaki isn't set to "introduce" anything... this is just a blown-up article based on a patent they've filed. It's the same as the articles about all the stuff Apple has patented. I doubt if they even have a fully working prototype.

SkooterG,

I went back and read the article more closely and I agree that it could be "fitted to the helmet of your choice" per the picture of the drawings. But, I am guessing that would be if (1) the buyer chooses to wear a full face helmet (as in picture) and (2) [the bigger if] of will Kawasaki and the main designer choose to market / sell it that way ?

A HUD display is not a new thing for Motorcycle helmets. I ran across this website a couple of years ago.

Let's hope it isn't designed by the same folks who have recently brought us such gems as KIPASS and the generally non-functioning tire monitoring systems.
