I have the Heli triple tree, and that along with a Russell Day-long really has made the difference in long distance comfort.

My friend Brodie helped me (he did 95% of it) install the AVCC which is awesome! Not as sophisticated or as finely packaged as the MCCruise, but it is so much better than a throttle lock!

Heated gear outlet just went in for the heated jacket and gloves - beautiful on these so-cold California mornings (gets all the way down to the low 30's for my morning commute and anywhere from 60-75 in the afternoon :yahoo: ). Sorry to everyone everywhere else, but a lifetime in the Sunshine (and Welfare) State gets you used to really mild temps....

Next big cash burn will be on some auxiliary headlights. Universal acclaim for the Clearwater Lights so that's probably where I'll go (bummed I missed the group buy that TomInCa organized this last fall).

Even though you didn't buy the vastly superior 05 in Blue, perhaps... a voltage meter?

A kick-stand pad...

An additional power outlet...

Some risers

and of course no FJR would be complete with out some decent rubber

When you change your front tire, get yourself a 90 degree air valve installed. No more fighting with disks to check the air.

Holy schnikees! you have some pretty interesting farkles!

When I had my 2005 FJR, I had 3 separate powerlet outlets, although I only used 2 of them. the 2011 comes with a 12V outlet, so that combined with a dual USB female receptacle to go in the 12v plug, I can power my cell and GPS...If I find reason to power something else up (never sure what the future holds :) ), I would definitely add another powerlet...

I am still pondering the WynPro pad. I bought his 5" RAM arm, and it is well constructed....

Regarding the tire...I have seen folks with (flat) tires on their bikes (which are normally found on 4-wheeled vehicles)....it would seem the flat face would hamper smooth operation and traction in turns....What has been your experience?

I also had risers on my 2005. I promised myself to ride the FJR with stock handle height for a while to see how I feel. I like the riding angle, but time will tell if my body will like the riding angle :)
Don't get the "Darksiders" going on about their car tires! One of those never-ending type discussions. They love them and will tell you how they change their tires once every leap year, or something like that

I agree with the holding off on the risers for a while. I have them on my 06 back when I was a bit more laid back of a rider and now that I am a little more aggressive I wonder how it would be without the triple clamp and risers. Nothing mentioned about a windshield. I bought the vstream but only use it in the winter as the motor doesn't move it up and down when on the move and I tend to like the look of the stock one. The vstrom handguards also protect your hands from stones etc. and the throttle lock is a must if only to give you a couple minutes of relief. I understand there have been some subtle changes since 06 so I assume the G2 throttle is not necessary, and heavy bar ends also are not needed as the right grip no longer vibrates? Is the suspension better and the seat? I have searched far and wide for a replacement for the fjr and can't find one. If it had real cruise control I don't believe anything could touch it. I have 106k miles on mine and farkeled the triple clamp and risers, salamander bar ends, G2 throttle sleeve, power commanders, fender extenda, throttle lock, spec tech tank protectors, ak20 forks and penske shock, mayer seat, ram mounts, vstream handguards, fz1 mirrors (only because I hit a turkey buzzard and it messed up the stock mirror and they are cheaper than the fjr stock mirrors),grip puppies, and K&N air filter (wouldn't do it again but it was dyno'd with it and I don't want to dyno it again). Runs as good or better than new. With the new tweaks I could get into a newer one 2011 and on and not have to spend the big bucks on the seat and suspension? enjoy, they are great bikes.

thanks much for your insights rockmurf....Those are some serious farkles...

On the seats...I have owned Corbin, Mustang, Sargent seats on various bikes, and for a much cheaper long touring option, I bought the AirHawk seat cover..the price seems spendy, but the product is heavy duty...plus, I can take it off if I know I will be in the twisties all day...the wrong seat when shifting ones rear-end left and right can be a nuisance after a while. I like the 2011 FJR seat...my next long road trip will be the test though....

I was checking out the FZ1 rear view mirrors, and they look like black plastic with the black metallic arms (unless I am looking at the wrong mirrors)...the 2011 rear view mirrors are color coded, and are likely more expensive.. they certainly look more complimentary to the FJR (IMHO). I will hold off on pursuing the FZ1 mirrors for the moment....

One thing I haven't considered, which you brought up is the K&N air filter....It has been a nice addition to my former bikes and cars....hmmmm....

On the 2005 FJR I had, with the Heli risers I had, I could sit so upright, that my back passed the 90 degree mark ( to about 100 degrees) and I put a BakUp backrest on the bike. I only used the backrest on long distances...It was more of a nuisance in getting on/off the bike though....

I am making a trip to the NC/TN area in May for some long days...That will be a litmus test....

+1 on the Clearwater lights. Keep me posted and if there is enough pent-up interest maybe we can talk Glen into putting together another deal. As far as farkling the bike, a custom seat can help extend your range and increase comfort. Some kind of comm system to manage phone, music, GPS, radar and possibly bike-to-bike. I use a very bright police surface mount light to supplement the brakes lights (Whelen TIR3) and use the Admore lights in the Givi trunk.

I really like what you've done so far, although I'm a little surprised no one has mentioned a larger wind-screen. I need to get the sliders and tank pads.

HaulinAshe has a great thread here on the forum about impacts of the K&N....He is more mechanically inclined than I am, so I am deferring to his wisdom :) https://www.fjrforum.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=129078

Your question sounds reasonable, but with all due respect, sir, you couldn't be more wrong about that (my opinion). Best farkle, bar none, that I could have put on my bike. My journey begins HERE. I'm going to bite my tongue here concerning my opinion of CT's on an FJR... instead I'm sending you a PM listing my darkside posts. Get cher-self a large cup of coffee, and enjoy the journey. Hope this helps.

Just curious, not sure if interested, but what kinda price might we expect on the lights?

Hope I'm not high jacking the thread here???
