Well as usual when I buy a bike I take it home , and pull it apart . Yes this is a NEW 2012 with only 40 miles in these first pictures .

So I had plans , and here is some of what I did so far . Took the bags and front lower fairing behind the front wheel to be coated in spray on bedliner .

Here is the GPS mount I built from some of my left over yamaha R6 power comander quick shifter linkage

Also I fabed up this onboard 150 psi air compressor . I wanted to put it were the battery is stock and relocate the battery to under the seat but the compresso generates some heat that concerns me unsupervised in the fairing so I put it under the seat so I can monitor it under use better . 16 feet of quick conect air hose .

ZERO to 42 PSI in rear tire in just over 1 minute , and 30 psi to 42 psi in just 15 seconds .

Nice machine . . . . I love the color for the 2012s - makes my '06 look brand new again!!.

I think I'll pull that lower triangle from my bike and have that sprayed - great idea.

Had this been my new ride I'd likely have left the cases as-is until they had their first rash - or, perhaps I'd have found someone who had slightly rashed bags and traded my pristine ones for his, since you were covering up the paint in any case . . . . also, though I suppose there's no real point in mentioning this since the bed-liner is already applied, but I'd have masked off the rubber bumpers and logo and I'd probably have left the reflectors in place.

That GPS mount looks neat, by the way . . . does it telescope? Does it let you change the viewing angle?

No it does not telascope and angle is fixed , but it is easily viewed currently were I have it located . I also dont care for bags to be painted since the see alot of abuse with heavy milage , and road conditions , also swaping used for new just wouldnt float for me . Plus my kids would always kick the bags getting on/off the bike .

When I first read what you were doing I didn't think the bags would look good but.........they look really nice. Kind of a utilitarian look that works nicely with the bike. Good luck with your new ride!

+1

I might have to steal that idea as well! Congrats on the new bike!

P.S. if you want to get rid of all the PAIR plumbing that gets in the way of looking at and working on that beautiful engine, look here: https://www.fjrforum.com/forum//index.php?showtopic=116612

P.P.S. If you really want to go nuts on your brand new bike, you can make sure your swing arm and relay arm bearings have enough lube: https://www.fjrforum.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=142743
