first thanks to Mark for organizing a great event. We had a wet but fun ride doing most of the west loop on Sunday. Today we did the east loop and it was AWESOME. The forcast didn't look good but we ran the whole day without any rain. We are staying another night here at Caldwell and then heading toward NC tomorrow.

I scrubbed my front tire bald today on the sides. Does anyone know a good place to get a set of PR3s spooned on near here or in WV? And yes Steve I'm getting rid of that pos truck tire. I can't keep fighting it for the rest of the week. A car tire will do 90% of what a bike tire will do but it's that top 10% of the performance that I live for.

if anyone knows a good place please let me know.

thanks, Mike

Got home today about 6 pm after running around southern Indiana with Wheaton. A beautiful day today, as compared with yesterday. Mark - thanks for setting this up. Ya did good. And by the way, I'll let you discuss the modifications you made to your bike today, including the spiffy racing stripe :p

thanks Joe, I'll kook them up

SE Ohio is rough on tires

Thanks Mark for a super job. This was my first ramble on my newly bought FJR and first long road trip. I had a fabulous adventure. I had heard about the roads but it was hard to believe the good stuff just kept coming and coming. Great fun and great folks.Had a great slabbing partner in Peter from CN - thanks Peter. Felt better in tandem first really long road trip. Sorry we chickened out Sunday but 3 long days of riding was enough for me in retrospect.

Flickr Pics pick the Ohio ramble pics (slideshow and show info is good way to view). if you like you can add comments - its all good. I added the photos earlier in this thread to the slideshow - no royalties paid.

I plan to be at NERDS in August if not something else sooner

I got home tonight about 7:30 pm and 540 miles today...a lot of them good. I'll post up photos after I get settled in back home and a shower and stuff.

Just wanted to say that I had a great time with everybody that showed up at the Ramble. I had the time of my life on Saturday...thanks to my riding buddies for the sharing in the fun. Thanks to all who graciously bought me beer...or let me steal one. It was much appreciated.

Thanks also to Gray Ray for volunteering to head up a slow race contest in the parking lot. Once it got started, I think people had a lot of fun. Though it was not an official Ramble event...it was great fun. Thanks also to Ray for bringing and sharing the "contest trophies".

Sorry to the Canadians and other LD riders who came for a two day event and then had many, myself included, change plans. I'm sorry if you were disappointed.

Thanks especially go out to Denny/drc32-0, who took it upon himself to scout roads for this Ramble...if you liked the roads on this Ramble...the thanks go mainly to Denny.

Will post photos soon....but thanks to the Geeks for giving such a great summary of a very fun weekend.

First things first. I rolled in Casa de Bungie around 8:45pm safe and sound after another long assed ride.

Its to bad it rained on the Sunday, but hey, when life hands you lemons. Bust out the Tequila!

No complaints from me. I'm already blue-skying a ride back down there for July.

We'll it was a lot of fun and great to put faces to names. It was mostly new roads for me and they were just awesome. I'll be back for more!

Here are us Canadians sans moi at Ash Cave under a shelter cowering from the rain on the west loop Sunday. Notice the smiling and dry onlooker.

Somewhere in Ohio on the way home I managed to have flat number two within a week on my new rear PR2.

You can see the flat piece of scrap metal in the tire. I used another stringy to plug it up and after about 15 minutes of pumping it was up to pressure.

But, then I noticed that the FF50s had been on the entire time, and so when a hit the starter button there was only a buzzing sound. Oh ****. Luckily there was a down grade starting about a 100 feet away, so I pushed the bike over to there, put it in second, let it roll down hill, dumped the clutch, and it started right away, Phew!

After checking the pressure twice within an hour I was back to my usual pace and made it home safely at 8:20pm Monday. It had not rained all day!

More pictures here!

Okay, mini-ride report.

I left Sudbury at 6:30am and made great time down. I crossed the border at Niagara on a beautiful clear day.

About 12 hrs and about 650 miles later, I rolled into Caldwell. A group of guys was out front so I did a lap of the parking lot to let them know that, yes, Captain U-turn is in the house!

I was in the C group with Griff, his brother AmishFJR and the Bockels. Kickstands up pretty much on time and we set out for the East loop.

The Bockels ran a great pace, in fact, it was pretty much text book 'The Pace'. I only saw brake lights when absolutely nesc. His race experience shows!

IMG_1412.jpg

Apparently I didn't return the favour as Griff mentioned that my brake light was on most of the ride. Gonna have to clean the pivot. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it!

The East route is probably in the top 10 best single day rides I've ever had. It's that good.

I particular like the Mail Pouch barns

IMG_1413.jpg

We stopped for lunch at the Historic Beallsville Diner. I don't know what makes it historic. Maybe because the food is good!

IMG_1422.jpg

Another great rest break was had at the over look with a view of the Ohio River far below.

I also saw the best idea *EVER*

A drive-thru beer store!

IMG_1428.jpg

In Canada, you have to got to 'The Beer Store' to get your beer. Serious, they have their own dedicated places that just sell beer and beer related accessories.

Sunday, the rains came and everybody bolted. Literally. The only bikes left at the hotel were all Canadians and one HD on a trailer. Go figure. We rode the West loop. Good stuff but at a much less spirited pace owing to the rain and cow crap on the roads. Still nice though. We ended up under a gazebo at Ash Cave with a drummer from Alaska. A little beef jerky (2 kinds) and some mixed nuts under the roof.

Saturday night was the slow race. I sucked at it. I blame my PR3's. They stick so well that I almost couldn't turn the bars to correct my bobbles at sub-walking speed. Oddly enough, the guy with the fastest bike is the slowest rider :D Congrats Pickles!

At this point, a little sidebar. I had bought a full Motoport Kevlar suit this past winter from a forum member that I wanted to test the claims for. When I left Sudbury, it was 2C (About 35F), I had put my heated liner on and plugged it in, but never had to turn it on. Good thing to because apparently I popped the fuse in it at some point! Toasty warm. Later in the day I peeled the heated liner off and ran just the rain liner. Perfectly comfortable. The next day, the temps got into the warmish territory. I peeled the rain liner out. SOB, this jacket is like MAJIC. It flowed enough air to keep you comfy too!

The true test was Sunday in the rain. It rained all day. Not hard, but enough to keep every HD from showing up at Jimbo's for lunch. Except for my gloves seeping water onto my sleeves, and the top of my belly from the rain running off my helmet when I had to stop for a whiz, perfectly dry. *AMAZING*. No more rainsuit for this guy! I felt sorry for Ryan and Peter though. It was mid 50's and wet and they were *SOAKED*.

I can't say enough about the PR3's either. Previous, my fav tires of all time for sticky/handling were Avons. These feel identical with the bonus that the stick great in the wet as well. No more PR2's for this guy simply because the difference is noticeable. PR2's only if the 3's aren't available.

Monday morning I wanted to head south with the Cdn's to NC. Bah, working for a living ... highly overrated. I had a bit of a late start and after a couple of bio-breaks and hitting Toronto right at rush hour (UGH. Feet down on the hwy) was uneventful. Got home about 9pm last night wiped but happy.

Mark and Denny did a fantastic job on the routes, no complaints with the hotel and lots of fun was had by all. Just wished the rain would've held off till Monday.

Oh ya, I've got about 250 20 second video clips to wade through and edit into something meaningful. That's gonna take a bit of time, so I'll post that up when I'm done.

Mark, can we do it again next year?!

... Man, theirs lots of cow **** on some of the roads around here....
Those are horse patties Steve. Those are horses pulling the amish buggies...not cows.

But yeah, you Canadians get the Iron Man prize (Ray, tell 'em what they've won) for doing the west loop in the rain. I bet that west loop took awhile to navigate in the wet. I'll come back at a more convenient time in the dry.

BTW, I've got to give kudos to everybody for riding "their" ride. Although there may have been a few puckered sphincters out there now and then, no reports of touchdown. I was quite impressed with all who came to the Ramble. It was a great time on the roads and a fun time as well socializing back at Ramble Central. :yahoo:

I come from the North, where the only horses and cows I've ever seen were on a BBQ. So, the things with the long legs, those are horses, not mooses right, and the fat dumb things are Arizonians cows, not bears?

We cut out the bottom loops off the West route as Peter and Ryan were borderline hypothermic from the wet/cold. We did catch ourselves a few times running the Hocking Hills area a bit faster than prudent - well that, and me doing a Supercross style table jump on the FJR once. Otherwise, it was a comfy safe pace.

Whats this Griff mentioned about you and pinstripes?

...Whats this Griff mentioned about you and pinstripes?

I'll let griff spill the beans on that.

Let's just say that I win the "Red Forman -You're a *******" Award.

We were near Beanblossum, Indiana and I was looking for a certain twisty road that heads south and west towards Bloomington. I was distracted. :D

Man, am I a *******! :D No FJRs were permanently harmed in this episode...

Ok, so we're going north in Bean Blossom, Indiana and Mark was in the lead. We were looking for the left turn onto Indiana 45, a very nice road between Bean Blossom and Bloomington. Mark was concentrating on finding the road to turn left on and obviously totally missed the road striping truck coming south painting a new yellow center line. I'm think, boy you definitely don't want to turn on that wet paint. So what does Mark do, he turns left RIGHT OVER the paint that was just applied 10 seconds early. Now we have an FJR with two beautiful yellow pinstripes. I get on the Sena intercom and ask Mark what he was thinking. All he could say was the front tire felt a little wobbly turning left back there. No ****.

Yellow Pinstripes!

that'll go well with the gray ghost silver on the 04.

Glad pinstripes were all you got Mark.

Here's the first of a series of vids. Excuse the editing. I've got a whole day of video clips to wade through. I'll try to keep them down to 5 minutes each.

I believe this first video features 260 and 800.
