Oh HotRod, so funny! A friend of mine who is as talented with firearms as Beerme (FBI) was critiquing everyone's grips. One of you on here, but shall remain nameless, is now known as Angie Dickinson - policewoman. Trouble is, you're a dude. (Not Dale, though he was not spared). Beerme was praised for his perfect grip. Now I don't want a camera anywhere near me holding a firearm!

Nope. Not me. I was comparing that grip to mine. I only shot one mag of .45 ACP. The rest was .223 (and a lot of that) because the Playa lends itself to distances.

And no, I don't hold a pistol like a tea cup (the A.D. reference, I can almost bet).

Jeeze, this is supposed to be fun.....

That Is Chuck Hicky behind me in Maura's truck. And that is a 4.5" XD(m) I am firing, not a 1911, obviously.

The grip I am using is a hybrid result of shooting right-handed, by with the left eye (right eye is nowadays useless for shooting due to LASIK gone bad.)

And I'll have you know this non-standard grip yielded a direct hit on my first run!

This year's targets were 2 blond barbies, and, for some reason, a black dildo (supplied by RenoJohn, 'enuf said!

) and I took the legs off of one of the Barbies on this pass... here is Beerme holding the victim later:

We had a number of Barbie hits this year.... I would like the think our handgunners are getting better every year, but I am suspicious that the increasing number of red dot scopes on Gerlachfest AR-15s is actually behind the increased accuracy.

1. Yes it is.

2. I'm cross dominate too (as well as using a modified Weaver instead of isosceles). Mine is due to an astigmatism in my right eye that's always been there. Thanks for the excuse I will henceforth use.

And the EOTech holo sight. For when red dots just aren't enough.

A side note, even though I shoot right handed (and right-eyed with rifles) the photo of me in the back of the convertible shows me using proper squad protocol and shooting left handed because of other team members to my left (me being in the "right column"). Muzzle control, baby!

Awww, I didn't mean to hurt anyone's feelings, he calls me Angie all the time. Difference being, I'm a chick.

He also said that he knows full well most people don't have the training and range time that he does, he's just funin' at people.

I'm blaming HotRod, I'd never have said anything if he didn't. Cos this is me ->

Interesting tho about 'cross dominance' I am completely left eye dominant and have shot left handed at times, tho I am right handed because I just can't close my left eye without closing 'em both. Is that more common than I've been led to believe? The few times someone knowledgable with firearms has realized this, they make it seem like I'm a very rare anomoly. Sounds like maybe not so? Or maybe these folks were just trying to make me feel special?

I concur with that assessment. While I have an comparable EOTech myself with a zero and 500 yard dot surrounded by a ring.....the additional 3x magnifier that was on Bounce's example of AR-15 goodness SERIOUSLY aided accuracy. That threatening chunk of firewood never had a chance of making it into our secure perimeter!

Yeah...I was just funnin' too, cuz Dale and I had a huge conversation about this stuff a whie back. My recommendations worked for him, so I was surprised to see his poor form. But it is Dale, so it's to be expected.

I can't help it...It's what I do.

As far as being cross eye dominant, that happens all the time. Really nothing rare about it. I have been teaching firearms since 1999...So, 14 years. I have taught tons of cadet classes, and a lot of stuff I began teaching as cross overs from comptetition shooting is now in our curriculum. I'm different from some instructors in that I don't teach something because "that's the way we've always done it." If I find something that works better, we test it out and see what works...Then we adjust.

Most of the cross eye stuff you see about shooting with the other hand, or that squad baloney about shooting left handed is all myth. Your gun doesn't know what hand your shooting with or which eye your using for sight picture or sight alignment. As long as the sights are correctly aligned, grip is correct, and trigger control is maintained, you will hit your target. Hold your gun strong hand, and just move it to the left to align with your left eye. Problem solved!

Sorry for the hijack.

Agreed. My reference was for staggered columns and muzzle control. Right column hold lefty so a casual, low ready, carry faces outward (and vice versa).
