That's a cool video with all those animals so close by. Hopefully water cooling & wet clutch and new final drive will enhance reliability and performance a lot.

The best part of that was the short film to the right of the Ural with a sidecar going up Hurricane Ridge.

Hurricane Ridge is a mountainous area in Washington's Olympic National Park. It can be accessed by road from Port Angeles and is open to hiking, skiing, and snowboarding. At an elevation of 5,242 feet, Hurricane Ridge is a year-round destination.

Did they water cool the final drive?

Just wonderin'...
Not yet. That project had to be put on hold because BMW lent out that engineering team to work on some projects for Yamaha. Seems Yamaha needs help with the following:

Factory retrofit to solve the heat issues on Gen 1 bikes

CCTs on gen 1 bikes

Ticking noise on gen 1 bikes

Bent shift dogs on gen 1 and gen 2 bikes

Dry clutch plates on gen 1 and gen 2 bikes

Grounding issues on Gen 2 bikes

Ignition switch failures on gen 2 bikes

Throttle position sensor on gen 1 bikes

AE shifting problems

Windshield ergonomics on gen 1 and 2 bikes

Rear brake pedal sticking

Seems like every time the team solves one of Yamaha's problems, Yamaha presents them with five new challenges. The team is not expected to return to BMW until some time after 2025.

Whew!! Thank goodness. No doubt due to the hard work of those Bavarian engineers, I've never experienced any of those ills, except for the last one, which was remedied with a quick spritz of WD40 in a parking lot until I could get home and grease it right.

I don't think a quick spritz of WD-40 will put out a flaming final drive.

Hey... I'm a BMW fan (in general) but I think their overall marketing philosophy can be summed up thusly:

"BMW Motorrad: You can buy better, but you can't pay more."

(yeah, now would be a good time to give me another "-" vote)

Here is the BMW GS this Olde Farte Beemerphile wishes that der Factory would produce: A lightweight replica of the original R80G/S. Less than 375 lbs. and a kick *** off road machine. EVUM still builds them, but I would play Hell getting it registered here in Arizona!

OMG! I didn't realize you had experienced a flaming final drive Fred! No wonder you continue to beat that dead horse so hard. You are one of the .001% of people that have actually been affected by this! :p

Get a grip, Scott. I didn't say anywhere that I had experienced a flaming final drive failure, and it is clearly way more than .001% occurrence if you just look at all of the reports.

But if you prefer to stick your head in the sand, go for it. I must say that you are shaping up to fit right in with the Beemer crowd.

No worries Herr Scott, I've already notified Hans und Dieter at Berlin BMW Command Central of Fred W's heresy and blasphemies!

Since I bought my Sidi boots from der Freddie Bear, and kept the mailing label, they already have his address in their BMW GPS's!

Fly out of Berlin Flughafen at midnight on Lufthansa, not decided yet whether to bring their Lugers or Schmeisser machine pistols!

Call me square...

But those "square" side bags still turn me off (not a knock to Bimmer as it's most enduro's)

The square bags take some getting used to, but they are much easier to pack than ours. A guy I ride with has pelican cases that are similar to the factory GS bags, they are easier to pack, hold more, and he can easily strap stuff on top.

They wouldn't look right on the FJR though.

Then stay with the FJR, RT, C14, or other sport tourers and be happy.

I do have to say that after a full season with the welded aluminum bags (https://muffintopindustries.com), I'll someday have trouble going back to plastic with compound curves, like on the FJR.

Not only does the available volume blow away the pretty bags on the FJR, but the shape and top loading is much more practical.

Fabric shopping bags work great as liners to carry clothes and such into the tent or hotel rooms.

Tools & heavy stuff sits in the bottom with no worries about the plastic and very little affect on cg.

There are cargo loops on the lids to lash down extra stuff, or to serve as accessible storage for my pillion while riding.

The bike falling over has been a non-event, as the black powder coat is really tough and can be touched up with nobody the wiser.

And then of course, you have a place for stickers...

I don't like to have them on the bike itself, and the removable boxes aren't compound curves.

As for the new 12GS, it's going to be a really impressive machine and I look forward to riding one.

The grey is good looking!

Ownership? I'll let somebody else spend the first coupla years working out the teething issues with the

new engine,

new cooling system,

new transmission,

new wet clutch,

new rear drive,

new electric bus distribution system,

new...

*hijack*

That's a good looking set of bags 'wrecks. Are they the dual 41 liter? Whose mounting system did you use for the install?

TIA

+1 - I think I'm going to get myself a set of those for Muffintop cases for the Man-strom. I'm using the Seahorse SE720 (which are Pelican 1520 clones) on there right now. They are great for everyday use, but are pretty small volume for use on longer trips. Especially if carrying camping gear those aluminum bags would be the cat's ***.

Thanks

34L & 41.

Something usually not noticed is that MuffinTop is essentially a one-man show and Wendell will work with customers on new welded aluminum ideas & do so at a good price.

Quick release SW-Motechs, bolted to the boxes.

Just use the large fender washers inside of the boxes.

Now back to your regularly scheduled Bimmer-fest...
