A while back our local shop had a ST1300 that had been ordered but not accepted for LEO use. It was white and had been stripped down for sale to the public but still contained:

Beefed up electrical system

A switch control panel to die for

Light mounts welded to the frame

Metal smuggler type storage ...

So yes, these bikes could well be worth 7k over the standard bikes. They would make great LD bikes...

Be great to have folks move out of your way on the freeway... but if used on the street it would have to be stripped, right? No legal to have the lights and all(?)

I don't see them getting that kind of cash for it.

I prefer and use the Canyon Cages and the side case guards myself

From my years on the P.D., it's not unusual to have a police demo. usually done w/ four wheeled vehicles, dealer who has the state bid for the vehicles often equips several vehicles w/ all the topline stuff and takes it to conferences and shows then generally sell them when the new model year is outfitted. Usually have a few thousand miles. Very good deals can be had and no install fees.

Thanks for that. Just brought my new to me 07 home and needing some body protection. Looks like canyon cages are at the top of the list.
