Not changing the oil filter and adding new oil is like putting on dirty underware after taking a shower!
What if you don't wear any underwear?

Did you know that the Yamaha FJR engine takes 5.18 quarts of oil when completely dry?

And when you drain it for an oil change, even when replacing the oil filter it will only take 4.23 quarts of oil.

Guess where that other quart of oil is....

The filter holds less than 7 ounces of oil. That is pretty insignificant considering the 30 ounces left behind in the crankcases.

Now go change those skivvies.

I used to use Supertech ST7317 for my 07' FJR (and our Honda and Nissan cars) and they worked just fine. That was the long size.

Walmart stopped carrying them, so I switched over to the Purolator Classic L14610. That's the long size and works fine as well.

IBJanky,

You are the guy that made the cross country road report a few years back, right? Yeah, you're the guy alright.

Dude!! Where the heck have you been? Hope you didn't cut us out of any more epic cross country rides...

IMO if an oil filter gets even 40% blocked you have a real problem with your engine because whats blocking it is coming from the engine . When changing oil I just add about 1-2 cup full of fresh oil and let that drain out and remove some more old dirty oil . Some bikes like my Vstrom recommend replacing the filter every third oil change and it has about 1/2 the oil capacity of my fjr .

Not sure what you are advocating here. Did you happen to catch this post earlier where I explain that there is 30 ounces of the old engine oil that you can't drain out of the FJR engine? I'm not seeing what running a couple of cups of oil through will do for you.

I bought a filter from a dealer in the mountains last weekend. When Lisa, the co-owner, looked up the filter for my Gen III to see if it was in stock she said, "that's the same filter that's used in the snowmobliles". Yes, it was in stock...
