Hmmmmm... I'm thinking the original silver works better. That's too much red. I'm sure Yamaha has a whole department that's in charge of the color/contrast on their bikes. Those boys/gals know what they are doing. Leave it to the professionals. :)

Dave if I get the side panels painted, will they scratch more easily than the silver plastic?
He was referring to the silver plastic panels that say FJR on them, the ones under the seats. I agree, they should be red. The 13' has them painted to match. Your question is one I have not thought about though, would the paint scratch more since your legs are over the top of them. The silver does match the engine covers, but I would like to see one with painted sides (not that anyone asked my opinion). That red is AWESOME!!
I was going to suggest the plastic protection film from Premier cycle but it looks like he doesn't sell it anymore. I am not sure where else to get it. Well if your going to stick with the two tone theme then I suggest painting the bottom of the give red and the top grey with maybe a small side stripe. Photoshop that.

Either way I am still Jealous,

I like the silver better too. But, if you want different, look for the thread where the gent used CF film on that and the panel at the bottom-aft of the tank. Aggressive looking.

Camera is a Canon EOS 5D mkIII with a 24-105IS on it.
The hiviz lights are mounted on double sided tape (they are very light) and their wires are through a hole drilled into the reflector.

I am going to photoshop the panels red and also black to have a look at what it does for the bike. As it stands now though, I am not an unhappy guy.
Thanks for the info!Great camera! The silver panels looks much more nice in the oem silver color, than in the red color..!(for me)

I don't like the red side panels either. Too much red. They look good in matching colors on my '13 though

This bike already has a strong color, so in this case I think leaving the side panels silver is more tasteful.

I like the side panels in red and the under tank trim in carbon fiber. If I can find the correct red, I'll have my local auto and bike painter do his magic...I think that Mazda has a red that is similar but I have not been able to do a side by side comparison. Has anyone with a '14 seen one of these?

Just checked the Color Rite website, they don't have the '14 FJR color listed yet ('13 is though). If you're in a hurry, looks like a body shop match is in the cards...

I've considered this but not sure they can match the metallic flashes that change this red so drastically depending on lighting situation.

That would be my concern as well. Unless they match it perfectly it would stand out and look terrible.

I have to get to a Mazda dealer with my bike to compare. If their red it's really close maybe my paint guy can add something to the base to exact match.

Nice looking bike Eric. Now I can't wait to get mine. Of course, with the white stuff on the ground and ice/salt on the roads I'm not in a big hurry yet.

I'm starting to feel like im in a hurry, not sure why cuz I live in upstate NY and it's only still December. I just want to have it in the garage so that I can look at it, and sit on it, and go "vroom-vroom".

I'm also anxious to start the farkling.

Looking at everyone's pictures though is helping pass the time away :)

look at the Kawi Concourse red (2013?) its pretty damn close.

Bogus, those are the vstrom guards. They do hit the cluster when the bars are turned to lock.

I have a question regarding your GIVI top case mounting - i notice you have the GIVI kit (p/n# Sr357 if i am not mistaken). To install this you must remove the Yamaha OEM passenger handlebars, correct ? what does the bike look like if you remove the side cases ?

ps- i am seriously considering the 14ES also and will soon have to decide how to mount my GIVI, option 2 is the Premier Accessories plate.

Thanks
