BMW R1200RT

No worries here..... it was just a post about a new product - and it being a BMW, the K1600 discussion and usual FJR brotherhood banter is more then welcome with me.....

I still like the idea of a K1600, as the RED FJR is a no go for me color wise. Who knows....

Don - Have they worked out a fix for the water pump for those k models so there are no longer any issues ?!?!

Did I pick up something in the above thread about a new water pump at or under 20k miles and just a short few words from "love" and "all is well"?

2014 BMW R1200RT es Wunderbar, Jawohl! AZ Beemers already have deposits at Arizona dealers.
Uh, BeemerdonS? That is NOT a 2014 in this video. Take a look at the valve covers and especially take note of the exhaust pipe. The '14 "Water Head" boxer engine has the exhaust exiting from the bottom of the head, not the front. While I cannot say exactly what year the bike in your video is, it looks identical down to the color of my friend's 2008. In any case, it is not a 2014.

Yeah, but it was under warranty! That must mean it does not count? What's a new water pump among friends anyway?

Still, it is a good looking bike. I like the way it looks and I bet it is wonderful to ride. The best thing the K1600 does for me is to push the other manufacturers to improve and update. With the exception of Honda, they are.

Many thanks to you Redfish Hunter, this was posted at AZ Beemers and the title was 2014; but you are 100% correct, the new exhaust definitely exhausts from the bottom of the head and not the front! Papa Chuy Viejo is really looking forward to trying out a fellow AZB's new BMW R1200RT!

So I don't get shunned by my Jap-bike (and there simply is no other bike!) crowd, I will proudly ride my FJR to their Rally's. I also don't plan on doing anymore BMW Rally's, did one last year and it was fecking 'dry' ...well at least compared to my buds here!
Ride wat ya got has always been my motto.

You must be running with the wrong forum crowd! I went to the Rubber Chicken Rally rally in WV this summer and had a blast!

Ok.....but I think the discussion of BMW maintenance costs is a lot more interesting......

I have read (from several that have taken test rides) that the wethead is very buzzy at higher rpms. Anyone here than can confirm how smooth (or not smooth) the new engine actually is?
I can't tell you about a wethead, but I can tell you there are differences between a smoooooooooooth as butter properly synced FJR and a twin cylinder RT. I notice the vibration while stopped and low RPMs. Once I get the bike above 3500 RPM all the vibrations are gone.

"Hola Gordie, que paso! I love mein BMW K1600GT "Gisele", all of the hard parts such as engine, transmission and chassis are Wunderbar. It's just the nickel and dime crap that gripes my big old butt, how can BMW make such a fantastic machine and saddle it with junk water pumps!" Here is what I posted to mi Amigo Gordie months ago. I am very good friends with Victory BMW, I buy all of my Beemers there and they sponsor our AZ Beemers MOA Club #89.

Prior to leaving for CFR 2012 in British Columbia I went to Victory Manager Tylor with copies of complaints on the water pump, being a good guy Tylor instructed Service Manager Justin to install a new pump just for my peace of mind riding up to Canuckistan: You don't want to break down around those Hoser Savages, eh!

I have the BMW Factory Warranty until 6/15/2014 and a Service Contract Warranty until 6/15/2018. Next June I'm going to ask Tylor to install new part number water pump en mien Gisele, I'm riding her to the Mexico Moto Clubs National Rally 2014 en Chihuahua Estado! But, Mexicanos are more civilized than Canucks!

Canucks are just Mexicans in sweaters. At least according to 'zilla. Guess that's why we get along with him.
Steve-O, have you ever noticed how much AJ looks like Army del Norte General Francisco "Pancho" Villa? Verdad, could be the same Hombre ese!

Looks almost as massive as the K16GT.
Bigger is not always better, IMO
I donno that they are that big...But remember: even though they are a SportTourer, they are a SportTOURER...They are pretty comfortable right out of the box and have lots of bells and whistles, but they do not have the smooth punch of the FJR or even the Honda ST. However, you could jump on one and ride just about anywhere in comfort and speed. I think it's one of those give/take deals...

I'd like to see one in person. The first pic above looked huge and ugly, after that it started to look pretty good.

I've ridden an '08 and found it to be a very nice motorcycle. I like the BMW, I know I could be very happy with one. This looks like a good update to a very good bike.

I think that it is all a matter of opinion. It's like trying to pick the Right Color... Some like blue, some like red, some say color does not matter at all.

Park one next to an FJR and it does look "big". The fairing is HUGE compared to the FJR. The BMW also looks and feels very tall. Comparing the fairing and wind protection from one to the other shows a tremendous difference in design philosophy. The BMW actually has more coverage than my Honda ST1300.

I am not saying it is good or bad. Some riders want to feel more wind, some want less. I can say I found the '08 model R1200RT I rode very warm and unpleasant in the heat of a South Louisiana summer. That is just one opinion and I still think they are great motorcycles.

Perhaps a comparison photo might help:
