How do you get to Diagnostic mode on a Gen III?

Just took a 30 mile ride and stopped at the store near home.

When I tried to start bike, the starter spun, but didn't fire. I'm so used to it, (and previous Gen I ) firing right away that I stopped and looked at the display.

It showed "016". I turned the key off and back on, and the display came up normally and the bike fired right up.

Hope it was just a glitch in the Matrix, and not a problem.

I would be taking it to the dealer. Why fix something yourself, even if you can, when you can get the work done for the price of taking it to the dealer?

I'm with Fontanaman on this one. At the very least, you'll find out what the 016 code means and how to correct it.

My factory service manual does not have a fault code 16.

Took a while to find Diag mode:

1. Simultaneously hold the TCS and RESET buttons.

2. Turn the main switch on.

3. Continue to press TCS snd RESET buttons for 8 secinds more.

4. DIAG should be displayed.

Although I'm not going to worry about it unless it happens again, If I want to take it to the dealer, it's 135 miles away.

Old school, Gen I & Gen II fault code 16 is a TPS error. Dunno what new school Gen III might use for that code but I would suspect that it remains the same.

My 2013 FSM lists TPS as fault code 15. Maybe a typo in the manual?

I'm not sure its a typo, times move on and all we knew from the first 2 Gens will probably be left behind. I gots ta get me one of those them there Gen III's and service a manual so I have something riveting to read at bed time
