Good information here. Definitely concerned about the shock maintenance on the ES model.

250 riding solo - loaded with gear can put a lot of strain on a shock. My rebuilt Penske was the best thing for my 08'.

Enjoying reading all of the feedback on which one to go with.

Can say this, 2014 ES models are very hard to find.

One dealer had one with 4500k miles with some extras and he quoted me $14,800.00

Strange because KBB says $12,200 for retail price. Supply and Demand!!!

Here is a question I haven't seen in this thread or any others.....How easily (or same as GEN II) is it to pull and change fork oil on the inverted shocks?

The inverted fork is going to require a spring compressor to separate the fork cap from the internal damping rod. After that, changing the oil (or replacing oil seals) is very similar to a standard fork. The ES fork cartridges have different designs so it's important not to mix them if they are apart at the same time.

Yeah, that is true, per the FSM. The amount the spring needs to be compressed is not all that much though, as far as I can figure. I'm sure that whoever among us is the first to feel a need to do it will come up with a work around to the official Yamaha tool. Looks pretty do-able from this armchair.

Traxxion sells a manual spring compressor kit and takes 2 to work....or one plus a large vise and straps.
