You think watching golf is stupid.... people around here watch FISHING!!!!! There's even a damn MUSEUM over in Destin, and another one up in Eufala!

Haha...I'm not a professional sports watcher. None of them. If this was a football thread, I'd be talking the same ****. Even motorcycle racing bores the **** out of me. I like motocross but after a while...

The only ball related sports I do like are girls LL softball, and college girls softball. Those games are amazing.

Speith has very few weaknesses in a game that rewards the mentally tough player who makes the fewest mistakes and has the best misses. He looks like he's really in the zone this week, and unless the golf gods smite him into puking all over himself, he's probably uncatchable this weekend. But no game can get in your head like golf, and if you've ever seriously tried to play this game well,* a few things become apparent:

No sport has more variables.

There may be no sport more difficult to master or more humbling (even, or especially, when you felt you owned it the day before).

It's the ultimate zen game, first requiring left brain (analytical decision making) and then right brain (visualization and feel) effort and concentration on every shot. Fail to isolate those functions or allow doubt to displace focus and you're screwed.

Trying harder doesn't work like it might in other sports.

The most valuable lessons taken from the game are analogies for important life lessons.

It's incredibly addictive* once you get past a threshold skill level.

* Didn't think golf was a real sport or play it as a kid, but once upon a time, I got as low as a 6.7 hcp index and was a greenskeeper at Spyglass Hill who played for free after work almost every day. (I suck now after leaving the game for ~17 years.)

Speith had an amazing round yesterday, and if that continues today, he's pretty much unstoppable. It will be interesting to see how the greens are today, not sure if they got rain last night, and how fast they are. He's still within reach, but somebody is going to have to have a remarkable round to close the gap.

It was nice to see the send off to Ben Crenshaw.

And now they've brought us televised "Professional" poker tournaments...Some things don't translate well to a spectator event...

I enjoy playing golf, and can stand watching it for a while, but mostly to see green grass and nice weather during those times we have neither here locally! It is a supremely frustrating game. I saw a shirt once that said "I hate this game. I hate this game. I hate this game. Nice shot! I LOVE this game!" Pretty well sums it up for me. One good shot and I'll keep playing.

Rich, I ran out of Likes, but I really liked this.

Spieth is the man, won 3 of his last 10 tournaments, nicest guy on tour. It's Thursday night now, he just finished round 1 with a 64, if I were a (real) gambler, I'd guestimate that he shoots 71 Friday, 69 on Saturday and 72 on Sunday for -12 to win by 3 to be the second youngest winner behind Tiger by 5 months.
Well I shoulda been a gambler. Missed it by 6 strokes and 1 in the second place gap. Hard to predict history. Looks like we may have a successor to Tiger.

Guess everyone must have their sport.

Watching golf of TV? Almost as exciting as watching grass grow.
