In the UK the only 2016 FJR colours avail are Tech Graphite and Matte Silver, I have opted for the matte silver, the question is what is the best way to look after the matte paint, obviously normal wax will not be good for this, has anyone had a Yamaha mate silver bike to look after, and what did you use to clean/polish it?

Congratulations on the new bike. It is worth noting that Harley Davidson sells quite a few bikes with a matte finish now. I think they call it a "denim" finish. I have often wondered how one is supposed to maintain that type of finish. As you say, normal wax should not work.

Edit: Looked this up on the Harley Davidson forum. Harley sells a special Harley Denim Paint Cleaner. Most folks apparently use Windex although mild soap and water were also used.

Most bottled car wash products have some form of wax built in so those are not recommended.

I use " Ice" made by Turtle wax....clear liquid synthetic polish...works great on matte black helmets and other matte finishes like automotive trim...

If the paint needs special care I would expect the owners manual to provide guidance and recommendations. I would also suspect every item suggested will start with Yamaha......

Go through some mud puddles and just ride it. Kinda like the 4 wheelers do. I really don't understand this washing bikes thing.

And it'll be expensive.

Congrats on the new bike. So it's on order? When do you get it?

I have a 2015 AE at moment, and love the bike, but live the 2016 a little more,

Congrats and definitely post some pics when you get the bike!

Don't be, he's not chosen the "AS" in the UK, which would be the "AE" for you, he's only chosen the "AE" in the UK which is the "ES" for you.

Only here to help
