The mirrors (not the above referenced brackets) are the same. They just have Yamaha Knuckle Visors on them. Available here. Same with the foot guards. Same with the windshield. Seat, city cases, and radio box, not so much, yet. The crash bars dont provide the coverage or mounting area that I would expect, at least from the pictures. Normally, on any police bike, you can hop off and let it fall, and only the bars get scuffed.

Smart. Given some of the things that have come up with BMW and Kawasaki police models, and with the lag of support for my own civilian model, it’s a definite factor to consider.

Doing some good for the neighborhood! Found the US dealer for police conversions (I think) and dropped them a note via their "Contact US" page:

News of the FJR police edition is making its way into FJR forums on the internet.

I own a 2015 ES version with over 58,000 miles, and am very interested in a couple of specialty parts. Would you sell a seat, crash bars, or perhaps the radio case to civilian FJR owners?

Thanks!

These guys say they will also sell some of their police related FJR parts -https://www.enforcementmotors.com/options/police-motorcycle-parts/

All non OEM.

That's where I found my info. They're a little unclear about what they might sell to non-cops, so that's why I asked. Wondering if I have to be Patriot Guard or something similar, and how one would go about certifying that status. (Not interested in anything that makes me look like an LEO. That's asking for trouble.)

"We also sell police motorcycle parts for civilian use doing business as formal escort service, police motorcycles in the movies and entertainment. Police motorcycle parts are sold with the state laws in mind as far as lighting and lighting sequence to prevent confusion and misrepresentation. Our police motorcycle parts can be used to accessorize a standard bike from protection bars and lighting to trunks and seats. Please call or email us for a complete catalog."

I dont know how the parts will work out, but its good info. And Hud- if you are guarding any patriots, Ill vouch for you and come along.

If I have it right, Enforcement Motors is doing their own thing with aftermarket and in-house produced parts.

For 2018, maybe they will move toward Yamaha OEM police parts, their web site doesnt give much info.

When I contacted them a couple of yrs ago, they sent me a price list and their stuff was really expensive.

For a while I even thought about trying to buy an Australian police wreck and getting it shipped to me.

I suspect it wont be long before the police part numbers are available thru 'selected' Yamaha OEM parts resellers.

Dont we all rent our bikes out for movie work? :)

How about bright Yellow. Oh, wait a minute, that's been done. Or bright yellow with a smiley face on back.

OOps, this was supposed to be on the helmet thread.

I wonder if the electrical system has been beefed up, particularly the alternator?
Could be but I doubt it. I think police bikes typically have an extra battery to run lights/radio/radar etc. when the engine is off. LED lighting systems (regular and emergency) are pretty low-power and the standard alternator could handle them OK. Other than heated grips, I don't think they would use heated riding gear on patrol. Siren use would be intermittent and I have no idea how much power radio or radar would consume - I expect not too much.
Still, a more powerful alternator would sometimes be nice, especially for gen II/III bikes still using incandescent bulbs for headlights/taillights and running rider + pillion heated gear. While aftermarket (i.e. Electrosport) higher capacity stators are available, they haven't been particularly reliable.

The "trunk" looks more useful than the Smuggler - especially if you didn't want to have the top box.

The “trunk” will hold slightly more than I have under my fjr seat right now. Maybe a small laptop and some gloves at best. From a guy who lived with a similar radio box for a while.

I think I remember seeing something in the write up about room for an extra battery. Maybe they got rid of the glovebox and put it there!! Where else to hide a battery on a bike.. jsns

The Moto Officers I have talked to up here don't ride with heated gear as they wear the bullet proof vests and the heated gear would add to much bulk. They did like having heated seats thou.

One of the complaints about the ST1300 was that they are to low for jumping curbs and such and they liked the BMW's better for that reason. Me thinks the Super Tenere would be a better tool for City and Rural duty and the FJR for the Hwy.
