2022 knocked over

I came out of the gym today to find my 2022 laying on its side in the parking lot. Hot day, and I thought maybe the kickstand sank into the asphalt, not the problem. No idea what happened, and no cameras around to catch what happened.
I didn’t file a police report. Insurance deductible is $1k. Clutch lever, side mirror/farings and chrome cover (not sure to what) took the brunt. Thoughts on repairs? I’m guessing the plastic parts can’t be buffed? Thanks in advance. Mark

It reminds me of mine .... along a lonely 2 lane we stopped to rest on a group ride. I parked the FJR and went to visit ... and heard the THUD!

It rolled forward slightly on a slope , because I didn't park it in gear. Big OOOPS! Maybe you did it too. Now I only park CAREFULLY .

Crap!! Guessing that some could be buffed and some could be touched up but the gouges look deep. Even if not through the color coat, you are certainly through the clear so that would require re-spray.
A good repaint done by a talented painter for the affected panels is the "right" way to do it - if someone else is paying for it. Clutch lever, of course and it is very likely that the inner "stay" that supports the mirror is broken.

It would be an easier decision for a 5 year old bike but what do you do for a brand new one? Talk to a body shop and get a quote for the whole thing as well as for a minimalist job. Even if costs exceed your deductible (likely, especially if the mirror stay is broken), how might the claim affect future insurance costs?

Easier/cheaper to replace the mirror and upper fairing bit, touch up the rest - and replace clutch lever and mirror stay (if broken)... (Wonder how a repaint would compare to replacing all affected body panels???)
Good thing the side cases weren't on the bike.

Don't suppose you could say it blew over in the wind and make a claim on comprehensive? At least that shouldn't affect future rates. I assume there is no evidence on the right side or rear that the bike was nudged by a car?

To replace all that is likely WAY more than $1K.

How perfectionist do you want to be? If you want it back to original, then replace parts. It might be possible to buff, sand, and paint, but gotta find somebody who will do it...and still not cheap.

I'd also check to see if the point the mirror is attached to didn't crack. The front subframes on Gen 2+ bikes are not as robust as one hopes and could have cracked. If so, very tedious and expensive to replace it....again fixing is tricky on a cast piece.

Otherwise, live with the cosmetic stuff. It doesn't make it any less reliable or fast.

Falling left, against the center stand? I agree, it may have rolled forward. The other guess is that some ass hat didn't look carefully enough, and gave it a nudge as he back out of his parking space. My condolences, and good luck with the repairs.

true about the side cases. The mirror is not broken, it’s just the deep gouges in the paint/plastic.

Mirror might cost more to fill/paint than to replace. The internal mirror support (stay) inside the fairing is often broken with a hard hit on the mirror. Pain in the ass to replace.

most likely scenario is some ASS knocked it over on purpose because you have something new and they don’t. Order the new parts or have your adjuster write up the estimate but advise the adjuster that you want the parts listed only, you will do the labor if you are capable of doing it. that will save you big $$$ on your loss. save the old parts and sand them down on your spare time and have shop paint them when you can. you will have spares. the left side case cover can be sanded and lightly touched up. looks like about $2-2500 in parts. good luck and keep us posted.

It's easy to check whether or not the mirror stay is broken. The mirrors should feel solidly mounted, if the stay is broken, the mirror can be moved.

Replacing the stay, as others have said, is a pig of a job. Not particularly hard, but time consuming.

Even with a $1k deductible you probably would have been better off filing a claim being that it's a brand new bike. I say this because fixing those panels will not be easy due to the deep scratches, and they won't be cheap to replace either. Go price the damaged parts. This is a bike you will have for many years and you may not want to be looking at those every day - I know I wouldn't.
This incident should not count against your policy because you were not driving/riding at the time - could be considered an act of vandalism.
If It were me, I'd file it and see what the come back with.

I had to replace my R mirror due or damage form a tight squeeze. Matte Blue cost me $125 after much, much searching, got lucky!
The mirror will probably be the least of the costs, unless there's other damage underneath.
The fairings is where it will get expensive....

Yep, I always leave in gear.
If there's one good thing to take away from a Harley, it's their locking side stand. Every bike manufacturer should have them.

Harley side stands are the best. I've seen a guy park on a sandy beach and just walk away.

It's hard to believe somebody knocked it over from the right side. It would take a heck of a hit to knock it over the kickstand. Knock it forward, sure that's easy.

Ouch. I did that to the mirror (2X, easy to replace and about $125 ) Check out just getting new parts, on a previous bike it was in fact cheaper to replace than repair, not to mention faster and more convenient. Check out M/C Canyon Cages, I have front and rear, saved my bacon a couple of times in parking lots.

I filed the insurance claim today. Correct, $1k is lots, but I think I’d regret not spending the $$ and having flaws I see everyday on my new bike. I’ll update when I have the repair estimate. Thanks for all the replies.

Great idea and according to those that have had him paint ... EXCELLENT work. Worth a phone call.
