MM2 definitely beware of Sam while you are out in the evening......

We are in Medford Oregon right now and the after 5pm activities are just about to start....not sure how long they will last as we are all tired.

American citizens do not legally require a passport to get back into the US - just a piece of photo ID. Homeland Security's databses are pretty comprehensive. - and the photocopy is a waste, though you should keep a record of the passport number, should you ever lose the original document.
You DO need your passport to get into Canada.

As to paying $228 for Fedex, too bad you didn't have someone who could take it to the airport for you and send it express air cargo it for you - you could have picked it up at the airport where you are and it should have cost less than $75.

Coulda, woulda, shoulda. The holiday weekend is the hill to climb and...... Time. Using samedayfedex is bonded and being a passport, and a very long way back from the border without it was just too much what if...... It is what it is and I'll see you all in Canada. Did someone say 228 worth of alcohol credits?

Duffus no 2 is Richard who booked hotels for the wrong days...... Pay back!

...good reminder for everyone. And don't forget to make a copy of the picture page and stash it separate from the passport.

I haven't run into this suggestion before, George. How does a copy of your passport help? Help you get another one issued in case of loss or something? Surely they won't accept a photocopy at the border in lieu of the original, will they? Please explain. Thanks.
Mike, flyball and Nightshine pretty much nailed it. This is probably most important if you're traveling overseas and need to visit an embassy for replacement. Didn't know about the ten year watch if you lose one...but the man is already watching so what difference does it really make. ;)

Roy-

I will buy you a beer as a small consolation for your misfortune. No- not for forgetting your passport, but for having to ride with Richard! HaHa.

Not quite but if you find me at the rally, introduce yourself and I'll make sure you get the honour of cracking a keg with a big mug and I might be able to persuade someone to cry in your beer too.

I can relate to the plight of the passport... about three weeks ago, I went to pull mine out of the stack of papers I remember it being it but.... it wasn't there. Um, okay. It must be in the drawer that I keep all the "important" stuff in... yeah, that's it. Um, no. ****. Wait, I must've filed it with the "important" paper in the filing cabinet. Right!! That's where it is! ******* hell... it's not there either. WTF?!?

I went through every place I would have put it and it's not there... I know it was in the house. Crap. Call the 800 number and make an appointment in SF to go sit and get a new one. Bring all the necessary accoutremonts, which luckily I COULD find. Pay the expedited fee and voila! $195 later, I have a new one in a day... whew!!

I know as soon as I return home, that damn old passport is gonna fall out of a pocket or purse or drawer something and I'm gonna think, oh hell, THAT'S where I put it!!

Sigh. I did do some cleaning out of papers and such.

But I'm comin', oh Canada... notify the authorities! :D

OMG! NO!! Stay under the radar, Ty

OTOH, it's only illegal if you get caught ;)

Let me see if I've got this right....the lesson to be learned here is that drinking helps with recall/memory? Damned good to know that.

Not a bad idea to scan in that main passport page, email it to yourself and archive it. Then it will be available to you worldwide if you lose your passport or if it gets stolen while traveling. Not certain how safe it is from hackers/forgers, though.

Have fun in B.C., eh?
