I figured with 24,113 miles on my '04 FJR it was due for brake pads. I picked up some locally <$60.

I popped the old ones out. They had a lot of miles left on them. I figured since I had them out, I'd put the new ones in. I think I had 20 minutes total in the whole swap.

It'll be another month before I can get out and "season" them.

Yeah, you're probably right, but mine had very even wear. I did clean up the part of the pistons I could get to with the calipers still whole.

I don't take my oil pan off each time I change oil.

Well for front pads to wear, I would imagine some occasional tire contact with the ground might be required. And of course, the same would apply to front tire wear, which I imagine in your case is roughly quadruple the average riders. ;)
