Lifted from an article I came across:

YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyo. • Driving routes in and around Yellowstone are slow to open this spring because of lingering deep snow in the high country.

Park officials say the Beartooth Highway outside the park’s northeast gate won’t open in time for the holiday weekend. Parts of the highway have seen more than 25 feet of snow.

The last time the Beartooth Highway remained closed during Memorial Day weekend was in 2005. Crews are working to open the road June 3.

The road between Canyon Village and Tower Fall isn’t expected to open until June 10. Clearing that road over Dunraven Pass is delayed two weeks.

The road over Sylvan Pass near the park’s east gate is open only between 8 p.m. and 10 a.m. each day because of the risk of avalanches.

I've been watching this too. Kinda disappointing as I was planning on riding through there the first full week of June. We'll see how it goes I guess.

Yep, we ended up riding thru central Utah instead of Tetons/Yellowstone last week for this very reason. It was a last minute change but definitely for the better (RR to be done soon, stand by)

25 feet? Pfft...I see your 25' and raise you 60+ to 75'

By the numbers – from the east, the highway is cleared shoulder to shoulder to LB#1 and it is 90% cleared. Caterpillars and the snow cat working ahead have cleared about 70% of the accumulation above LB#2 and about 20% at LB#3. With the snowfall since the assessment in March, the depths in the Liberty Bell zone grew from 60+’ to 75’.

And we managed to get ours open just fine yesterday. ;)

That looks like just a skiff to me :p Here's the Beartooth in June '08 when I went over on my Bandit... It was probably 20 feet deep when I went through.

I was curious about the Going-to-the-Sun status, so I did some Googling. Here's an up-to-date page showing progress on the plowing. If it doesn't seem to be going very fast, here are some amazing pictures that show what the crews are up against. Keep in mind, anybody considering this trip, some of the very best views are seen short of the summit on the western side of the hill, so don't let not being able to ride all the way over keep you out of the park. And ride around (outside the park to the south) to the east side and check out the Many Glacier entrance. It's open and amazing!

We're going to be heading through that are on June 12. Any good sources for up to date info? I've already got alternate routes but I will be making the decision in the morning of June 12.

Any riding in Yellowstone or Glacier, any time of years, can be impeded by snow. I've learned to have flexible plans and go where the weather is nice - fog in Glacier makes it just as uninteresting as a ride along a foggy Mississippi river.
