Thanks for all the thoughts. At this point, I think I'm looking at the 2 bike route. So, a nice used FJR for the wife and me...and something else for me alone. I've started poking around for used gen2 FJRs as I want ABS on the wife-bike. Not gonna go for a used C14, as the pre-2010 models don't appeal. I'll let you all know when I buy.
Gen 1b (04' & 05') were optional ABS so you could look at those too.

I went the 2-bike route too: 2006 FJR + 2000 SV650. Beats trying to hustle a 690lbs bike through the twisties across the river, or overloading a 370lbs bike and fighting the cold rainy wind when crossing the plains.

When I went looking for used FJR's I decided to stick to the 2006 and newer models. My research indicated that was the year Yamaha made improvements to heat and wind management and the seat. But I'm sure this is a contentious issue ...
