Ok, this is my 1st trip off with the FJR....

I left the Lake District early Sunday and headed off through the Scottish Borders, my 1st brew stop was just north of Moffat by this small erection

This was built "to remember the driver of the Edinburgh Mail Coach who perished here in a Snow Storm on 1st February 1831 in kindly assisting his fellow sufferer the Guard, to carry forward the Mail Bags" ..... the train could not get through so a couple tried to carry the mail on foot when they perished...

Onwards to Edinburgh and over the Forth bridge heading north. Another couple of hours and starting to get a bit numb now, time for another rest - this time overlooking the castle at Pitlochry...

Next stop was Aviemore, it was 22 C (red hot to me) and I needed a cold drink when I found this place, he had a HD outside and also one inside the bar

I arrived in Ullapool mid afternoon after 8 hours in the saddle and covered 345 miles....time for a beer

Monday morning I headed off Northeast...at 10:00 I arrived here and asked for a coffee. I was told by the owner and his wife to make myself at home as they were taking the dogs out and to collect eggs... I was left in the pub on my own while the owner went for a walk...how cool is that.. B)

Many of the A-roads in the Scottish Highlands are like this...single track with passing places

Next stop was Durness, the edge of the world but rain looks the same everywhere so no pics...

Off to the memorial at Kinlochbervie...

...and back to Ullapool via some more great biking roads...

Tuesday started wet...but once it stopped I was off to Applecross pass, its 2500 ft up and 12miles long with the odd hairpin

Then to Loch Carrann...

On my way home now after an overnight in Fort William and my last pic....a moody looking Glen Coe yesterday morning...

Total distance was 1050 miles in 4 days :D

Now to plan my next trip.....outside the midge season :angry2:

WOW! But did you have to post the sheep shot? Bustanut'll be all over that like a fat kid on a Smartie :D

That is too cool and way funny. I can not imagine that happening too often in our uncivilized big cities

Thanks for sharing the pictures, my great grandfather came from there. I would love to visit it sometime but doubt I will ever make it but pictures like yours make me think about it.

Regards

Mac

Ok ok....my mirror thingys....

These were on when I bought her...I'm getting the impression you all think my baby is a tad ugly with them...have a look here:-

https://www.yamaha-motor.co.uk/factsheets/2...sheet-GB-EN.pdf

They are meant to be wind deflectors...thats all I'm afraid.

Right then...they are coming off tomorrow to see how she looks without them

Even the Llamas noticed them

I don't think they are ugly...probably pretty nice in the wet and cold.

Form follows function in my book, and those aren't too bad in the form department.

You should see how some people mount up air horns to their bike around here...or atleast in Louisiana anyway. :)

Great ride report! My wife and I plan to visit Scotland next year for our 25th anniversary. Did you have a planned route? I was thinking of riding, but obviously would have to rent. Any suggestions?

During school hols & busier periods I pre-plan the routes (to a degree anyway) and accomodation for peace of mind. If it is outside the main holiday period then I sometimes just go and see where I end up. Sometimes I camp, for this trip I stayed in hostels for £15/night. Could not face camping this time of year due to the midges... :angry2:

I can suggest plenty of places to see and good biking roads too, as for renting I suggest Googling, I have just had a quick look and come up with this...I don't know of anyone that rents locally though.

I'll ask next time I'm at the main dealers and let you know if they rent bikes.

What time of year you thinking of..?

Great report. I spent a couple of weeks up in that area after college. Stayed near Loch Ness and traveled from their. Back then I thought that they would be great roads to ride my bicycle on. Now I know better that they would be better on a motorcycle.

Not too bad looking on those mirror thingys. I just never seen such a thing on the FJR ... and they are OEM from mammy yammy too!
