Yesterday, while my wife watched the store, I broke away for a great ride. I left at 6am and got home at 4:30pm. I put 440.2mi on the bike. I must be the guy this bike was made for. No sore butt, no sore back, arms ok, shoulders good, legs good, everything was just perfect. The only thing that was a little sore at all was my palms. I am not sure yet how to fix that. I am hoping that time will take care of it.

A couple other things that I learned about this bike were, how well it handles the corners and how fast it is. I went into a corner way to hot for me. All I did was push a little harder on the left grip, give a little throttle and through the corner we went. I did drag the left peg a little but that was it. I left that corner with a smile on my face and then slowed down a little. I didn't want to push my luck.

Later on, during the ride, I found out just how stupid fast this bike is. I was following a line of cars all following a slow moving truck. We got to a straight stretch of road and there was no on coming traffic for miles. There were 3 cars between the truck and me and no one would pass. Well it was time to go. I was going 50mph. I pulled out and just rolled on the throttle and away we went. I look down when I went by the truck and I was doing 112mph and the bike was still pulling hard. It did this sooo easy. I never got much past half throttle.

This bike just blows me away every time I ride it. Now I need to learn discipline. I just can't say enough about this bike.

My wife and I did our first 420 mile ride this past Saturday but had to stay within a reasonable distance from home becuase the front Metzeler Z4 is worn to the wear bars and cupped out pretty bad. It had 36 PSI when I bought it so I took it up to 40 and ordered a new front tire (Z6). We stayed off the interstate and just rode little out of the way back roads and highways around lakes and a state park. We spent 10 hours riding but our pace was pretty slow with traffic and small towns.

I have had my bike a little over a year and I really enjoy reading posts like this that help me relive the days of getting to know the FJR. Nice report! The bike sure will handle the turns and you did the right thing by just overcoming your mind and pushing on the bars to get through that corner. As you get more and more used to what this bike will do, it'll probably just keep surprising you!!!

Here's some good news: That feeling you have about your bike doesn't go away. I've been on my bike for over 20k miles and I still am in awe of the quality of this bike and what it can do. I still go out into my garage and look at my bike from different angles and smile. Rest assured you bought yourself what is arguably the best bike in the world. The more you get to know her, the more you'll realize this fact.

I have decided to never think I understand this bike's limitations and I hope that I don't have to test them! I suppose you only reach the bike's limitations by exceeding them and that could get ugly really, really fast. I know a few people have had to push the bars harder than they thought the bike could handle and the bike came through without a hiccup.

Now I'm going to go pack for WFO and a bunch of riding! Have fun!

Careful on those 420 rides

Anywhere near Bell's Marina; I used to bass fish there pretty regular up in those parts. Mt.Pleasant, SC, myself. And for sure, usually a nice ride at (almost said in) and around the lakes.

:dribble: I hear ya Evil Henchman...

C&C it was off HWY 267 about 15 miles northwest of Santee, just some little out of the way public access that we decided to check out.

My wife was scared for a minute that we were going to go for a ride "in" the lake, I almost went down the loading ramp but figured it might be sort of slippery and moss covered down there.

To heck with learning discipline, LEARN HOW THE HIGH PERFORMANCE aspect of riding......One of the biggest problems in overcoming your riding capabilities is unlearning discipline...in otherwords, overcoming your fear......

Buy this book, read it, study it, read it again, study it again, do all the practices and you'll be introduced into a new world of driving...one that very very few people are members of. You might want to be larger rearview mirrors to keep track of your rding buddies...And if they ask you how you make going so fast look so smooth, tell em IT"S A GOD GIVEN TALENT THAT YOU WERE BLESSED WITH"!

Now go haul ass and drive it like you stole it!!!!!

See ya out there in the outer relmes of universe...and I'm not talking being in your rear view mirror either...

No hard feelings here. I like a thread that sparks a lot of different interest. Feel free to interject anything you want. It is all interesting.

On my 440mi loop I went through "Crater Lake" in Central Oregon. This has to be picture wonderland.

Oh how i want to live out west. The scenery is so much more dramatic and seems made for sport touring. I am within 3 hours of the Smoky mountains so I can still get my fix but I really want to move to St George, Utah when I retire...

Ahh yes, Lake Marion....a beautiful area...I would have loved to have moved there! Congrats to you on a great motorcycle and a lovely wife.

Ride Safe,

Ron

Years ago I took a canoe trip down the Wateree River from Hwy 378 all the way through and to the I-95 side of Lake Marion. 2 days of non-stop rowing, that river does not move after all... Also, the map shows the river relatively straight... :dribble: It's got more curves than a Weight Watchers convention.

Its a sham. There is no algae of any kind in Creater Lake. There are a few lakes around here that have BLUE GREEN ALGAE growing in them right now. It is free. You can EAT all you want. If you live through it you can even get some more to sell. Just remember, the stuff is deadly.
