My short friend, Kevin AKA Panman, sent me a text, "Are you working Thursday?" And oddly enough I wasn't but that's another story. So the ride was on.
We [Panman] decided to meet at the Sultan Bakery. Not a bad place to start a ride from. Of course I had to ride Ben Howard Road to get there. What a great way to start a day. Yes the Sultan Bakery is worth a stop.
As we sat and clogged our arteries a plan was formed sort of. Ride across Stevens Pass, Hwy 2, and plan more on the way. Of course we changed our plan before we got to the pass, Reiter Road, heck yes! 2/3 Of the way through Reiter, the road was shut down for work on a rail road crossing. So we had to turn around. Not a bad thing to ride it again. This photo is from a run I did through this road on my '06' FJR
The ride across Stevens Pass was fun and the scenery was awesome. Panman and I are the king of detours. We thought turn north at Coles Corner and do the Chiwawa Loop Road, passed the city of Plain, Derby Canyon Road and back out at Peshastin would be fun and of course it was.
Alright next on the agenda would be Blewett Pass, Hwy 97. Wonder if Old Blewett Pass is open. Only one way to find out and it's only 4071 at the top of the pass.
Nope so we had to back track again which as I said before isn't and bad thing. So it was back to Blewett Pass and heading south.
We found some back roads off the south end of 97 into Ellensburg and across I90 to the Yakima Canyon Road just off of Hwy 82/97. If you have not been on this canyon road you are missing some good fun and great scenery. Just as we entered the canyon we met a unmarked police car. Maybe there is a god, JSNS. Panman passed a hot rod sub as we were entering the fun part of the road and things got quite a bit quicker. As we were leaving the south end of the canyon we met another Highway Patrol with a customer. Some times luck is a really good thing. Truly was a fun run but we didn't see much of scenery so we turned around and road it again. No traffic, good pavement and great scenery, some days are just better than others.
From Ellensburg we headed west on back roads towards [Thorp Prairie Road] Cle Elum and Snoqualmie Pass. Of course found a couple of forest service roads that looked interesting. And yes, we did a lot more back tracking.
Snoqualmie Pass was fun, beautiful and no traffic to speak of. We hopped off of I90 at North Bend and road to Fall City and the Frontier Traven for a bite to eat.
More back roads from Fall City north on the Snoqualmie Valley Road and High Bridge Road. At the end of High Bridge Road I headed south and Panman headed north.
Just one of those great days when everything went as not planed.
Thanks Panman, 'twas an excellent day.
