I'm thinking the G1 Feejers are something like

1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th [Ratio] = 2.529, 1.773, 1.348, 1.077, 0.929 respectively.

You mayd want to get 5th closer to .8 (or maybe .7 if your a real speedster) u just don't want to loag down in that gear of course and yes there is such a thing as too much top end.

And you can see there is not a lot of difference (factory) in 4th to 5th that's why I said you could get away with this gear change without much notice other than a slightly longer 4th to 5th transition. Your RPM's would be lower in 5th so the 3500-4000 cruising at high speeds would be dropped to maybe closer to 3000 range. It would almost be an overdrive so to speak depending on what you can find gear size wise. And yes, I have used a very good machinist before with excellent results (but my pockets were lighter!)

When I do these mods on my other toyz.. Yes, It's a bit time consuming (but fun) trial and error. I really believe the top end gearing is not correct for speed daemons but for plain ole touring it is probably at the "sweet spot" :)

Yeahbutt...Although a lower 5th gear ratio may give you additional RPMs, there may be enough of a power decrease at those speeds to negate any gains. The wind drag at the 150mph mark is substantially higher than at 100, or even 120mph. I don't remember the formula exactly, but over a 100% gain in drag.

I would have to see the power band curve in relationship to rpm but cruising at a modest 75 at a bit under 3K should be fine. Cruising at those much higher speeds as Zilla mentioned should still matt out substantial rips, enough to offset any additional wind resistance. If this was just a 500cc engine I would not even mention this.

The bike at high speeds is simply over rev'd and a concede to this would be Yami's (supposedly) new upcoming model with a 6th gear. Granted 6th will not top off exactly where our 5th ends now but I'm sure the top end ratio will favor more of what we are talking about here.

Not only with my powersports have I played with this but I own a company (with trucks) and have a CDL and on our Thruway (superhighway) trucks we alter the final pumpkin gear. Now one main difference is that my Diesels have a low torque (power in the lower rpms vs gasoline powered). What we loose is a real short 1st (which is OK cuz most of the time that's just a creeper gear anyway) but we do gain substantial higher speed mileage. My rural delivery trucks I usually leave alone.

If I did a lot of fast highway speeds and wanted better mileage I would be your guinea pig. I may still even be if I get the urge but after the season ends as I'm in my boating and jet-skiing heavy jumbo mode right now :)

52.4 mpg on a nice ride up to the Arizona high country yesterday. Hit reserve at 274 miles. I think that is a record for me.
My best is 269 miles. My current tank is just over 250 miles. But I got the dreaded blinking light after taking a run through town last night.

Leaving on a 2K jaunt camping jaunt this weekend over Lake Superior, I don't plan on hauling much ass so it'll be interesting to see how the bike does. Most of my trips, and therefor mileage history, are running on the hard side as I'm usually slabbing it to get to the good stuff.
Wow, I start to get nervous around 250 when the last bar is blinking.
