In some countries the continued bashing and bashing and bashing of a product that is quite successful is considered a symptom of the small ***** envy syndrome.....and Two Wheel Nut, where did you get that little guy sticking up his finger. I want to post one of those.

Well,I don't have actual figures to back this up but the local shop where I get my bike inspected is always surprised at how many miles I put on each year. They are used to seeing only a thousand or two. This is a Yamaha dealer I'm talking about. It is not just Harleys that spend a lot of time parked in front of the local pub.
Victory had a nice year...
"Sales of Victory motorcycles increased 56 percent during the fourth quarter 2005, as compared to the fourth quarter of 2004. This increase is attributable to improved brand recognition, the success of the Hammer and Vegas Jackpot models, a more powerful 100 cubic inch engine and a new six speed transmission, and improvements in the dealer network. Full year 2005 Victory motorcycle sales increased 34 percent over 2004."
I haven't seen that many around because volumes are still low relative to other brands, but me thinks the brand is growing at a healthy clip. Now I am beginning to understand things like the CVO unit at HDI. I think HDI realizes that there is a growing number of competitors in "their space".
Honda sales were up 4.2% last year. I will post if I get any info on the other big 3.
And Boi and Monkey, we are not bashing Harley in this thread. For that we can go to Cycle Bash on delphi. What most people, including myself, are doing is pointing to research, facts and some anecdotal evidence of what is happening with HDI and a large portion of their customer base and the other players in the industry.
Your "***** envy" comment is very stereotypical of the retort echoed by many HD owners. Combine this with the "getting more ***** on my HD" retort and it only ingrains the image in peoples mind of HD owners who are so hideous and repulsive that only women impressed by Harleys will approach and mate with them. Does that mean when the HD is gone they become pariahs to the opposite *** again?
It only serves to further deepen the stereotypical image of the HD owners trying to acquire what they lack mentally/physically/sexually by stepping up to the counter at the local dealership.
Much like television, the internet provides you with the opportunity to "change the channel". If you are offended that someone somewhere maybe be having a chuckle at the Motor Company's expense then avoid the "channels" were the discussion is taking place. If you can't do that, then feel free to contribute and equally witty or funny comment/joke/limeric/etc. about YamHonKawaZuki and if it is funny we will all laugh! Most of us still have the funny bone we were born with firmly in place and like to have it tickled.

Victories are nice bikes - I was really, really close to choosing an 8-ball over the FJR. I wanted both, but could only afford one. I'm glad that I ended up with the Feejer, but in certain crowds (i.e. Poker Runs) the 8-ball would fit in better.
But, then again, who needs to fit in?
(Real conversation between me and a friend who rides Harleys while we were doing a Poker Run)
Friend: "Don't you hate riding at the back behind all these Harleys?"

Love the Motor Company as a business concern and from an investment standpoint. Their product doesn't appeal to me but to each his own. I like vanilla, some like chocolate. But perhaps my tastes will change over time.
Okay, you V-Twin know it alls. What kind of motor is in a Victory? RevTech? S&S? HD? There can't be that many manufacturers for that type of engine out there. Is it something other than a 45 degree twin? As I have stated before, I am not at all up on the cruisers and those powerplants. I just know they shake! Perhaps Polaris is building someone else's engine under license?

Why do you doubt that they have either the financial or engineering resources to design and build their own power plant?
I did not know they had their own engine department. I always thought the smaller manufacturers used engines from other manufacturers ie. Rotax, etc. So they have a 50 degree OHC motor. In the pictures of them I have seen the motor looks wide! Thought it may have been a V4. We all learn something! I will have to check it out at the bike show in Feb.
