Hey guys, I am leaving from Pensacola Florida and taking the scenic route out to Laguna Seca for the MotoGP next weekend in Californication.

I currently have a 2005 FJR with corbin canyon, some genmar adapters, rifle blue shield with tuning block, ventura pack & rack system (thanks smitty) TOG's, Blaster horns, PC3 with custom dyno map (127.1 RWHP), K&N Filter,Wild larry's highway pegs, Vista Cruise, Garmin 276c on a locking touratech mount, Valentine1, Chatterbox X2, FZ1 mirrors, avon 45/46's, fenda extenda, I-River MP3.

I can't help but think I may be missing something, are there any recommendations from the group as to what else maybe added tomake the trip a little more bearable.

We are taking 2 weeks to complete the 6500 miles, and will be staying at hotels along the way.

I have no added security other than my Para Ordnance P-12 in 45acp, other than that, what would you recommend?

By the way, there are 4 of us in the group, 2 05 FJR's and 2 Aprillia Futura's

Lucky *******!

Sounds like you are good to go Skippy. You have covered all the major farkles, now its just miscellaneous stuff like a tire repair kit, and a few extra tools, etc....

Be careful with the man-gun. Lots of socialist states out there that DO NOT take kindly to any kind of firearms anywhere near ya.

Enjoy the trip.

Greg

Sounds to me like you have PLENTY of stuff.

I'll add one thing: NEW tires, preferrably Avons or PR's. Otherwise, you're almost sure to be doing a mid-trip tire change. And if you enjoy wicking it up on the wide-open western spaces, you'll probably need new tires even if you start with new ones.

Have fun,

- Mark

One more security farkle you might consider is a sign with an arrow pointing to the other bikes that says, "Hey, look! Aprilia Futuras!"

The Avon's only have about 500 miles on them, so I should be good for the trip.

I like th idea of some kind of disc alarm, any particular brands or types that have been proven?

And by the way, one of the aprillia's is bright red metallic, the other is a dark grey metallic, I don't think I will need a sign pointing to them :D

Keep the ideas coming, I only have 5 days till I leave.

Done the heat mods?

Checked your rain gear?

Spare key?

Hard bag inserts (never used mine)?

Bag reflectors?

Extra box of Talons for your .45?

Deer horns?

LED flashlight?

Disposable cell phone?

Waterproof gloves?

Tire repair kit?

Extra bungies?

Have you changed your stock headlights? I had hyperbrights that were EXTREMELY bright and a very wide field of illumination. Regrettably, they only lasted about 5K, so I switched to Silver Stars.

Don't forget to test ride with weight and be prepared to change your suspension settings.

Oil and filter change?

Man, I've had too much coffee already!

Have a GREAT TRIP!

Flashlight is a great idea, already have the Silverstars, Gold Dot 230gr hollow points for the .45

Need to get a tire repair kit, any specific recommendations, mushrooms or gummy worms?

Does anyone use or have used the Co2 cartridges or just take a small compressor?

Camel bak for hydraytion=Check

This is good guys, keep it up.

Speaking of headlights, you may be surprised at how high they will point when you are fully loaded.

It might be worthwhile to do a quick check fully loaded and see if you want to adjust them down a bit.

What, and miss all that recognition from your friendly oncoming cages?

Seriously, that's a good point. Your buddies in front of you would probably appreciate it. Unless you are in the front. Then who cares. You are on an FJR, after all!

I was wondering what the truckers were talking abut on the CB for the first few hundred miles!

Para-O P-12's rock! Had one for years. I handloaded wandcutters for practice but loaded for bear with Hydra-Shoks...

...ahhhemm...but...eh...I assume you're a Fed? If not, don't get caught carrying out of state or you'll end up getting sweet nothing's whispered into your year by the great, fat, and smelly, Bubba The A$$ Pounder.

:D

If your trip is anything like mine just was, that V1 will come in handy! I was painted over 30 times by radar and 1 time by Laser in 5 1/2 days and 3400 miles!

I hope you have a great time!! Its a great time of the year for an X-country ride!

First, Kalifornia is not very hospitable for carrying handguns. Yes the odds are small that you would get caught in possession of the P12 but if you do or you find yourself in a position needing to use it, you will spend the rest of your life and give attorneys all your money to fight it in court. The Kalifornia AG will make an example of you instead of working like a dog to keep violent pyschopaths like Orosco off the streets (this gang member recently killed a LA County sheriff). BTW, I have a P-14. Love it but not really the best for discrete carry.

As far as gear goes, a recent cross-country trip (finished yesterday) taught me to bring spare parts for my Roadcrafter. My zipper broke off and my only fix was safety pins. So get spares for your gear, whatever brand it is.

These came from an issue of Brittish mag TWO

Luma Enduro 901

Motrax Vishas

Oxford Patriot and also Titan

VFR NZ Grip Lock, not actually a disk lock, but holds the throttle and front brake on the handlebar, and is highly visible

Xena Nightmare XN-18, with built in 120dB alarm

I have used none of the products, but were the "highlighted" products of this saftey article in the disk lock section. Also has a section on Ulock, alarms, anchors, and tracking, if anyone is interested.

HEY!!! I resemble that remark!!! LOL. I am a trucker.
Yea,

i heard some comments about "the ----- with his high beams on, then someone mentioned he is on a bike... Oops! They were low beams, Luggage loaded!

Skippy: I got the Xena XN14 a while back and am happy with it. It fits nicely under the seat, self-activates its alarm when you install it on the brake disk, and has both vibration and level sensors. You can adjust its sensitively by where you place it on the brake disk. Best of all, it will sound off in time to catch you before you drive off should you forget to remove it (don't ask :) ).

Lockit.com has several sizes and finishes. This one is stainless and is the smallest size whose throat reaches the large oval holes in the brake disk. The product seems very well built.

No type of lock will prevent a really determined thief, but it will buy you some piece of mind.

Have a blast on your tour!
