Skippy: I got the Xena XN14 a while back and am happy with it. It fits nicely under the seat, self-activates its alarm when you install it on the brake disk, and has both vibration and level sensors. You can adjust its sensitively by where you place it on the brake disk. Best of all, it will sound off in time to catch you before you drive off should you forget to remove it (don't ask :) ).

Have a blast on your tour!
Went ahead and ordered the Xena XM14 in bright yellow today from a very nice girl called Sam down in Port Orange, should be here Friday evening.

Got some small snacks and waterproof ziplock bags, wired up the Magnum Blaster horns, and added another fused cigarette lighter socket.

Used dielectric sealer on all the connections, and adjusted the Vstrom handguards so they fit a little better.

Topped off the coolant and checked the various nuts and bolts.

Anything else?

Thanks for all of the ideas, this is why I love the Internet and Al Gore for inventing it :p

I see that you are getting the alarm lock. I was going to recommend a disk lock and the alarm lock I bought from Aerostich. The thin metal cable is long enough to wrap around the bike and another object and completes a circuit when plugged in to the main unit. The cable won't resist cutting very well, but when it is cut, the alarm sounds at 120 db. It also has a blinking led that says "watch out." And, it's only about $25.

I took a S&W 642 on a trip recently. First, I checked packing.org for the concealed carry reciprocity and rules for every state I was to visit. In Oregon, at the border, I unloaded the gun, put on a trigger lock, and stored the cartridges separately. It's a pain, but better than meeting Bubba.

The real hassle was going into restaurants that serve alcohol. Many of the states that have reciprocity with my state still prohibit carry on a premises that serves booze. Since my gun was in my tank bag, and I take the tank bag into restaurants with me (has my camera, too), I had to move the gun to another bag. That was a PITA. I carried with me the printed reciprocity regulations for each state I was to go through since many police do not know the details of their own state's regs.

It was such a hassle, that I didn't carry on my last multi-state trip. :(

Have a great trip,

Ron

Well guys I'm back, 6,700 miles later and still loving the bike, now have 15,500 on my 05.

Went through Arkansas, Misouri, Oaklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Utah, Colorado, Nevada and Californication.

Iron butted it back 2,700 miles in 49 hours from Susanville CA to Gulf Breeze, FL, that was a mixture of fun and fear I can tell you.

Visited 4 mountain ranges, rode way too fast through most of them, scared myself and a couple of other FJR riders hopping the rear wheel into some corners (sorry folks, I was trying to stay with my buddies on the Aprillia Futura's).

Saw Tag# AMA 6 on an 04 Cerulean, whoever that was going into Laguna track on Saturday morning.

Went up the PCH from Frisco to Eureka and then across on hwy36, one of the best roads of the trip.

Travelled all the way across Yosemite NP on 120, boy, that was slow with all the cages and RV's, plus the rangers running radar!! However, it was a truely awesome place to visit, still had snow on the high points.

Rode back through Amargossa Valley next to Death Valley in 120 deg. heat, got painted good by a state trooper who lit up his Christmas tree, however, neither of us were looking forward to standing out in that heat, so we both kept going...phew!

Las Vegas freeways in Rush Hour suck the big one, it felt hotter than Death Valley.

Burned through an Avon AV46 rear in 4300 miles due to possible triple digit speeds through tha farmlands of Oaklahoma.

Experienced 44-47 MPG which was awesome, and most welcome.

The Ventura system I bought from Smitty worked wonderfully and I would heartily recommend it to anyone considering a luggage system.

A Moab sunset, from the Sunset reaturant is a must see, a truley Kodak moment.

Thanks to Reno Motorsports for hooking me up with a new Avon while I waited, have nearly 3500 miles on it and it still looks almost new, due to the lower average speeds coming back and driving at night when it is cooler, must have helped tremendously. It looks like it will go about 8000 +.

The Xena XM14 alarmed disc lock is the bomb and very easy to use, and I don't know how anyone can ride the FJR without the FZ1 Emgo mirror conversion, a good $49.95 investment.

Got back home and thankfully my house was not damaged by Hurricane Dennis, even though I am only 3 miles to the West of where ir landed, still haven't finished rebuilding from Ivan, so that was a relief.

I think that's it for now, except that the Race was awesome and the only way to get in and out of the track in less than 20 minutes was on a motorcycle or the shuttle buses.

Thanks for all the great tips, they came in very useful.

Oh, and by the way, no chicken strips on the rear and scraped both pegs for the first time on this bike.....wooohooo.

Sometimes they will light up the tree to slow you down, he may have figured he could'nt catch you so let you go.You cant out run radio  Glad you had a good time I run triples to its so much fun but do it on back roads like Death Valley towards Ridgecrest or Baker to Shoeshone. :D

rogerfjrfaster :D

Yeah, I was on Hwy95 just south of Beatty when he painted me, it did slow me down for a few yards, then as it was obvious he wasn't coming back, I turned the wick back up.
