OK, I read all the information on this forum and sometime you have to take things with a grain of salt-
BUT, the information going around about the dry drive splines is to be taken serioously.
I had my service done today on my ew 06- no problems anywhere on the stuff recommended to be checked by the Yamaha check list.
However, I asked them to check out the splines. They found that not only were they dry- but there was some oxidation beginning to take place. Also, the sharft drive gear oil was very dirty!
Engine oil was fine- no bits, very clean. All bearings torqued to specs.
So, I would re-emphasize what many have said and have the service guys grease the splines.
At my local dealership (Woods fun center Austin TX) another 06 had been serviced before mine- but the service guy said the FJR owner would only let them change the oil- that's it. If you are out there and reading this- go back and get a better check up
