Got my 700 mile '06 back from its 600 mile service last night....amazing improvement! My bike now feels like it is all one pc. in the same county working together. It had been dying and just generally felt very disjointed, like the throttle, throttle bodies and engine were in 3 different counties.
NEC found the throttle cable to be very slack (no surprise..), the throttle bodies "almost" synced (close but no ceegar counts in horseshoes and hand grenades...not FJRs....), timing was spot on. Per what other members had found I had them pull the driveshaft. Sure enough, not bone dry but not adequately lubed either. Honda moly has taken care of that. Rear end was drained, cleaned and refilled, and badly needed it. Cost was just over $160.00. I also had them increase the front tire pressure to match the rear and it seems like the steering response is now a bit quicker and slightly less effort.
After riding her for over an hour last night, including down S. River Rd (wheeeee!!!) she really feels good. I had sent several of the tech tips, from here, about working on the bike to NEC and they used them to good effect. Jason, their Srvc Mgr, assigned his newest wrench(but expieranced) to work on my bike. He had never worked on an FJR before but did a good job based on the results. Today I guess he gets to service my old '03 as it came in for service. That poor bike does look old at @25K miles: cracked plastic all over the nose, scraped paint etc. Sorry '03 owners but the blaaaa silver just dies next to the deep, rich blue on the '06s.
At any rate thanks to info found on this forum my new '06 is now feelinn GOOD...aaaahhh, wotta bike! DFO
