6700 miles on a front tire?

I have B-Stone on the front with 10k on it. I should get another 2500 out of it. Tire pressure is so important, that I check it every week.

When you get new rubber you might want to add a set of 83 degree valve stems so you can check pressure and add air without fighting.
DUH, I shoulda had a V8, why didn't I think of that when I just changed my tires. I are dumb

That's not normal, but as was said, the OEM tires are far from the best choices out there. What pressure are you running? Are you a heavy front brake user? Where was the tire worn the most? Any cupping?

Except for one set of Pilot Road 2s, I have ALWAYS gotten more life from the front than the rear tire. Sometimes the front has gotten pretty worn and started cupping not giving me the best performance however.
Well, 42 front and rear normally, but I just checked now and the front was down a little - the rear too. Admittedly, I'm not great about checking, that's why I married Walt :) And also why I need a TPMS, I'm good about checking that. but we saw one that has a little warning light you can mount that I think I like. I wanna pull out the old IBA rag where Tom did his report and see what's in there too. The one we were looking at did have an angled valve stem so that should help make it easier to fill as well.

Not aggressive on the front brake, nor aggressive in general. Wait, we're talking about riding motorcycles, right? ;)

It's worn fairly evenly looking, right down the center, no cupping. It just getting to look a bit like me at Gerlach in 09  (that would be bald for those who don't get the reference)

I'm gonna go ahead and replace 'em both. We'll hold on to the rear in case I pick up a nail or something.

I got the impression Skooty wasn't happy with his PR2's, but I like them on the FZ6, so I'm going to give them a try on the FJR. If they don't work out, I'll try something different next time. With the GS gone, I'll be riding her more so should have more opportunities for tire changes. Nothing like totaling one bike to force you to ride another!

Thanks for the input everyone.

You should be happy! 6,700 miles? I shredded the front tire on my new C14 in 3,000 miles! Cupped and bald, nothing left of it, and I am an old fart.

I got ****** mileage on my first front too, about the same miles as you. I get over 10,000 on a set now. The best way to get the tire to last longer is to stay out of the grooves in the road. I put almost 40,000 on my car every year, and the tires have lasted for about two and a half years. My bike tires on the FJR are metzlers, Z6, but now I see they have a Z8. That guy with the Connis ought to look for better tires, or change the way he rides. Snow tires and chains are good for traction in the snow but they mess up the road pretty bad, and wear out your tires. Turn your radio off while driving the car and run in different positions in the lane and listen to the tire noise. I ride the bike as close to the center on dry roads.

Metzlers only make M/C tires, not bicycles, bumpers, just tires, and they make soem pretty good ones.

got 4k on my OEM front and 6k on the back.

Watch your PSI religiously. You can't get away with sloppy on a bike. It doesn't have an extra pair of tires to rescue you from a FUBAR. I run 42/42 since my first OEM set at the recommended pressures. Last longer, handles better (IMO).

My FJR was the first bike that wore out front tires almost as fast as the rears. I've settled on PR2's until next time I'll switch to the PR3's. I get 12K+ miles and I'm on my third set I pushed one set to 17k miles and they still had rubber but not much. I've gotten more conservative and have been checking after 12K. I agree that the pressure is critical and 42 lbs seems to be best for a 230# rider who likes to "play" on occasion although it does stiffen up the ride a bit. Keeping the tires balanced will have a definite relationship to long life, losing a weight isn't really noticeable below about 70mph. I guess motorcycles of this genre put a lot of stress on the front tires do to weight, power and handling prowess.

My front tires don't wear as much as the rear tire, but it is close enough that I change them both together. I have 22k miles on my '08 and I am on my third set of Z6's, I am getting 8k miles out of a set and I am quite happy with the performance.

7200 on the stock Bridgestone BT-021 front tire before I replaced it. Still had about 3/32" tread but I has a couple of weekend trips planned and didn't want to be replacing the tire on the road. Had Bridgestone BT-023GT mounted and am happy with it. Tracks well in corners and seems to have good wet traction. I'll learn more about that in a couple of months when the rain starts again here in Seattle. Reat Bt-021 still has 5/32" left, starting to get flat across the middle of the tread. I hope that is because I have been doing a lot of commuting and running up to Boeing in Everett on the 405 more than usual.
