Rode from Chicago to Wabeno, WI (NW of Green Bay about 100 miles) and back this weekend for a family gathering. The first 300 miles wasn't bad at all. Last 60+ the first day started to suck. The back is great after both days, but the rear end was getting more difficult to find a comfort zone. Day 2 and 12 hrs rest later, agony after the first 100 and the knees were taking a beating. Took 2 extended gas stops.

Problem A: Muscles out of shape.

Problem B: Hadn't done a long bike trip in years.

Problem C: Did it on a crotch rocket. (unexplored scenario til now)

Problem D: A crotch rocket slightly too small for me.

Problem E: Seat needs more padding.

Problem F: Love this little bike but won't keep it as lond as my last bike.

Problem G: Stuck with it for a while.

Positives:

Bike is smok'n gorgeous.

Begs for more speed in the curves.

Laser-like handling.

Makes me pack less.

Perfect for most of my riding.

Smooth engine.

Passes like a ***** ape in sixth.

Gets about 43 MPG in the 75 MPH area.

Timing of ownership may prevail to put me in the seat of a Gen III FJR one day.

Rode my ninja zx9r on two different day trips from RI to NY (365 miles round trip). After the first trip convinced me to start looking for a sport touring bike and I have settled on the FJR. On the last trip this past saturday I rode next to an FJR and behind one checking it out, definitely liked what I saw.

Love my zx9r but 10 hour days on it and I am ready to get off of it. Hoping that wont be the case with the FJR

Oh you bunch of pansies... There is nothing wrong with taking long rides on sportbikes. I did a BBG1500 on my 02 CBR954 and had time to spare. Its all a matter of getting used to the bike.

I have done about 13 SS1000's and 3 BBG1500's on the Hayabusa. Since April.

And then there was a lengthy little ride I did last summer on the CBR1100XX....

Serious LD Riding on a sportbike takes dedication and motivation.

And ibuprofen.
