I've put some thought into this ["Oh no, here we go...."], and here's what I think: Among the population of Harley riders, there are many many riders who take riding seriously and improve their skills and are better riders than many of us (certainly than I am).IMHO... The general crux of this problem is that some - not all by any means, Harley riders have the "I'm bad, because I ride a Harley" pride problem. Everyone of us sees it all the time. I have two friends who ride them because they say it makes them look cool - so to speak. We have an event called Hog Rock in S. Illinois and it's the same thing - drugs, alcohol and motorcyles, whcich is not a good mix.If your self worth comes from a motorcyle and an image - you're headed for trouble. These people really need to consider the other members of their families that love them and need them around.
However, IMHO Harleys, more so than any other bike, attract riders who are interested principally in the look and coolness and lifestyle, but don't really work on the skills.
So it seems to me that that's why Harley riders get such a bad rap--because there are proportionally more "posers" on Harleys than you find on other bikes (with the possible exception of sport bikes?).
